Are seat humps done?

Edited Date/Time 3/28/2024 10:17pm

I dont see them nearly as often.  They look terrible.  Ive never slipped off the back of a bike.  Seems like a fad thats gone now?  I think they limit your ability to move around and actually hurt your riding.  Is there any proof they helped lap times or anything?

I wouldn't ever need or want one and I agree they look lame. They do seem less common now.

With how hard the pros hit things, like when you see them absolutely slam a berm or with how hard they compress into a face or whatnot, or even just for gauging/maintaining position on the seat maybe? Point being their needs are different from 95% of us.

Are people still using winged seats?

I’ve thought about getting one for my Dads bike so he can stay in a better position when seated. Seems like it would help some.

I use the Corner Coach, so I can move it where I want and I can take it off at will. The 'hump' helps me tremendously since switching to a 4 stroke.

AC runs a big one. Also Ferrandis, Stewart, Barcia. Who else?

I sure hope they're done.    I can't imagine anything looking dumber on the clean lines of MX bikes.

For the record, I hated these seats too....

You thought seat bumps were a “fad” or for looks? At this point, if you don’t understand the benefit of a seat bump, why they are used or that they are still used…I don’t know what to tell you.

It is more like having a shape of lever you like -- just a touch-based the way a dude chooses to interface with the bike.

I'd say they've actually made a little come back the last couple of years. That said, the fastest riders don't seem to run them... Jett, Eli, Chase, Kenny, Coop etc.

I'm too slow for it to matter, but my fast buddy has a clip on bump he uses when he feels like he is sitting to far back or forward etc to get him back where he needs to be.

I have a huge grip donut guy, they seem to help my soft girly hands alot.

I cant ride without them. I like to ride inboard on the grip a lot. Without them my thumbs are blistered in one moto! Gotta glue them to the grip though so you dont fold them over. Seat bumps arent my jam but i can see their place and on a factory 450 in supercross while sitting into the face of a jump, they'll keep where you are supposed to be.

they're not gimmicks, but they were definitely designed for feminine men with soft hands.

Winged seats are so great for tall riders where their knees are above the seat

I ride off-road and moto, I still use one but not near that aggressive. Off-road it keeps your ass from walking backwards on the seat when paddling on steep technical up hills, and Moto takes some stress off you arms when accelerating. I find them helpful

You’ve also probably not tripled in either 😂
