An interesting stats about first 7 wins

After Philadelphia, Jett took his 7th career win in the big class. I did compared how many starts it took for some of the biggest named to get to the 7th wins mark (some like Barcia never did catch that mark...) :

Number of starts / Racer

11 = James Stewart

15 = Jett Lawrence

23 = Ryan Villopoto

32 = Ryan Dungey

36 = Ken Roczen

41 = Cooper Webb

44 = Chase Sexton

50 = Eli Tomac

58 = Jason Anderson

It's so interesting that Eli didn't get his 7th until his 50th start. Mind blowing to me that he's 2nd all-time now.

The other thread on this shows Stewart as only having 6 wins after 15 races.

If wiki is correct, it would be 17 for Stewart Smile . He got injured in 05 although winning 3 sx, and got his 7th win at the 11th round in 2006. Jett is in crazy good company Smile MC is also up there, got the 7th wins at the 12th round in 93 ; I don't know how many rounds he did in 1992.

McGrath: 7th win was his 12th start in his rookie year '93.

Yes, double checked Dungey too.  (3) 450 starts in 2008, (6) wins in his Rookie 2010 championship season, then (1) win (his 7th) late in the 2011 season.

I believe it took RC 21 races to get his first SX win.

Edit: but as #4 all time in SX wins, he should be on that list.

The goat and king should definitely be on the list. Even if their first years werent great.

Though if Bubba number is wrong, how certain are we about the other riders? Surely it didnt take Eli that long?

We should add that Jett has even more crazy stats in the all time win list as below :

http://mxbob.com/AllTime/AllTimeAMAWins.htm

He is 17th all time with 32 wins and by the end of the year, still at 20 and just before his 21st birthday late in the outdoors, he may be right below or with KRoc ... Even RC is getting nearer, so I trully believe we may just watch history in the making. Which is crazy as so far it was not boring to watch as it "usually" happens Smile 72 is damned hard, but about 100 wins over 10 years, I would even say that it is much lower than the current rate ... Incredible. The last and only one that was like that was JMB tbh and even here he is blowing by him right now... as a rookie... .

Them shoulders set him back for a couple of years.

That is so crazy, how badly RC was doing those first 2 years. Relative to how well he did outdoors and eventually in SX.  It doesn't seem possible that it took so long. But it did.

I'm relatively young  compared to some guys on here. Following as I grew up in the 1980s and I do not remember anybody else who has been so good so fast, in both SX and MX.   That has stuck around for a longtime.

I hope he is able to stay focused and motivated if he keeps winning .  The only others that I can remember doing so well so early in their big bike racing did not stick around a longtime. MC did SX well and won outdoors a little bit too. But was never the same level in MX .

  JMB winning and then moving on.

 Stewart , So good, but after he lost RC to push him, it seemed like he lost focus and did not do as well as a lot of people expected   he would after RC retired.

 RV got burnt out and retired youngish.

Jett seems to learn  quickly. I hope he has  noticed how a lot of guys who do well early on , have had shorter careers. And I hope he figures out how to extend his time at the top. And keep racing both SX and MX for enough years to have a shot at ALL of the records. He has talked about how he has lost focus when he has been way out front by himself . Perhaps that is why he often wins by smaller margins? A way of keeping himself sharp and focused on the task?  So far he has made it fun to watch.

He had to deal with 15'-17' title winning dungey.

I think that he has 52? wins now shows MC record isn't as far fetched as we all believed then, as basically Jett has 2 more free seasons to get wins in and if he lasts as long as Eli with similar win seasons it will be close. Which I don't think he will and will quit to do other things before getting there.

Just makes people realise that these records that “can’t be broken” really could be broken at the rate Jetts going..

Crazy part is Jetts been so good so young at both SX and MX

Wins can be racked up pretty quickly if a dominant rider goes on a streak.  RC got one win in his first two years, then piled on 25 wins, more than half his career total, in the next two years.

Not a dissimilar situation to Jett - first two years he was up against a few aging but still capable champions. By 2002 those were either gone altogether or no longer real threats.  There was no one on the radar that was expected to challenge him for the next few years, but Reed came along in 2003.  Without him RC would have been pretty unchallenged until JS moved to the 250 class in 2005.

Interesting list, but hard to ignore the regional races / starts.  Would be nice to add a category for Regional starts. Wouldn't change the order or anything, but just a bit more context and perspective.

For example, both Lawrence and McGrath have 30 plus starts in the Regional classes, while Bradshaw had just 10 starts in the Regional class before full-time in Premier.  Not to mention those (pre-1985) who never had the benefit of Regional starts.
