So youre just gonna gloss over Sexton giving them their first #1 plate in probably 20 years?

Recency bias is brutal in this sport. I feel like if Chase doesn't win a race this summer, vital is going to be calling for him to retire.

Maybe I should just go ahead and start the thread? “Is it time for Sexton to hang up the boots?”

Well Jett isn't selling many bikes for Honda in Australia. Right now Honda is offering $4000 off 24 model CR450f's, more than any other manufacturer at the moment.

If the intent of racing and winning is to sell bikes then having Jett riding Honda isn't working. No point pushing him millions a year if they aren't getting a return on investment

The economics of racing has never been meant for the rider salary to be less than or equal to the amount of bikes they sell.

I didn't say it was but Jetts championships don't even seem to have moved the needle for Honda's sales figures in his home country

Whether like the MC case where he left, Honda had first right to keep him and didn’t make it happen. Same with RC, Honda had first right. Honda also let Tomac go after being with them for a long time.

What's this "right" you speak of, MC was at the end of his contract, he was a free agent and could negotiate another contract with anybody he wanted to.

Yah in the case of MC. He wanted to go. Honda might have been able to enforce some sort of extension . But MC did not like the Aluminum frame, and there were other reasons. I think there was an issue with him riding non Honda Jet ski's even though Honda did not have one for him to ride.

But the biggest reason was the bike itself.

And Honda wanted to trademark McGraths name and likeness.

Meaning Honda has what’s called first right to refusal as in they get a chance to make an offer, just like they had with RC. If they can’t come to an agreement with the rider then they let that rider go, simple as that.

Yes they're 2-0 letting riders go after championship seasons, so just going by their record alone tells fans and Jett they will drop him soon.

RC wanted out of Honda because they wanted to go after James and he didn't like that feel.

Uh, not even close to the truth. RC4 didn’t even find out until 2019 that Honda was trying to sign Stew. You need to watch his WhiskeyThrottle episode. He was BEGGING Honda to keep him. He did not want to leave them.

It’s all about the ROI, Honda doesn’t care about anything else. As soon as that ROI changes he won’t be getting reply’s on his contract renewal

Surprised no one has mentioned Jett to Ducati in '25  Smile

Cairoli has been instrumental in developing the new Ducait.

I think yz133 meant:

the MC/Honda separation thing was almost 30 years ago…not his age when it happened..?

Whatever.

Tomac in 2015 wasn't even in the same universe as MC or RC

Tomac was not the 2nd winningest sx rider or 4th in outdoor wins when he left Honda.  Also pretty sure Tomac left because he thought the Honda chassis put him on the ground too much (the one that caused his shoulder injury was probably the last straw) and everyone had seen villopoto clean house on green in recent history at that time.  So Honda did not dump Tomac.  Much like Sexton, he thought the grass was greener on the other side, he left of his own accord, chasing a “better” bike.

The thing is he struggled initially on green in 2016, and a lot of people still say his speed on the geico Honda in 2015 outdoors was up there with anyone, as some of the most insane speed ever seen in US Nationals.

And Kawasaki let Tomac go when he had won 3 straight MX titles.

My point still stands. The mfg. lets these champion riders go all the time and always have for many different reasons. Jett may not be a forever Honda guy.
