My 22 350 has stalled twice in 2 weeks while coming out of a corner on the gas . Always happened later in the day mid session, acts like it running out of gas , then after about 30 seconds will start right up and act normal. I have changed the tiny inline filter after the first time
There is another thread about this, I”m not sure how to post a link to it…. The fuel filter was the first thing I tried, but I would still have intermittent stalling/ engine dying. Mine ended up being, mud packed around the spark plug so tight, like cement, that shop tech felt the spark was jumping and causing the random stalling. Shop also stated they have seen coils go bad. I”m very meticulous with my bikes, but apparently the spark plug cap had not sealed to the valve cover tight enough letting water & dirt/mud into the plug hole. Shop stated it was so packed & hardened that they had to remove the engine to get the plug out, bad angle with engine in the frame. After cleaning the cement like mud and replacing the plug, I have not had any stalling since. Now I make sure the plug cap is tight to the valve cover & blow out the little hole behind the temp sensor on the head after washing. May or may not be your issue. Everything electronic checked out ok.
I had some problems with flame out with the stock ECU on my '19 FC350. Basically gone now with Vortex.
I have read some turning up the idle to reduce flame outs, though.
Idle set too low
It doesn't act like a flame out though I know what that is . This seems like it is running out of fuel coming hard out of corners then hard to start but does start up and run fine .
The Shop
Do you top off fuel in between rides? Maybe the fuel pump is temporarily starving and cutting out.
Yes there is always plenty of fuel in the tank . I guess I'll change out the tank filter and go from there . I hear that's no barrel of monkeys either lol
Mine would randomly just die, wait a minute then it would start. happened 2-3 times within 15-20hrs of riding. happened on a smaller jump face and that was it, I did not feel safe riding the bike. Could be tank filter if not, get stator & coil tested, then check TPI settings, I would also replace the plug.
Thanks guys . I will look under the tank at the plug too as I have to take it off anyway .
This happened on my 2018 KTM250SXF several times and eventually spit me off on a jump face.
Fuel line in the gas tank crimped or something like that? Could be the fuel pump going out
I'm thinking maybe the fuel filter inside the tank is cracked cuz when I rev it up I can see gas kind of spit upward Cody says that's how you can maybe tell I ordered a kit from Rocky mountain already. One more thing how often you guys change the plugs I guess I could do it since I got the gas tank off.
Change the plug while I was in there
What a pain in the ass that is
also check the internal fuel lines inside the tank, they are plastic and have been known to develop cracks. You can hit the start button for a second to energize/pressurize the fuel pump, and look inside the tank for small bubbles coming out of the fuel line inside the tank, or filter. Happened to my buddy's bike and it would occasionally stall and didn't seem to have the power it did before, after looking at a bunch of other things, he found out it was caused by lower fuel pressure due to an internal leak inside the tank.
Toby259 that is exactly what I think it is and I bought kit from RMatv . It had bubbles and fuel squirting inside tank when I revved the engine. Hope it's not too hard to do , luckily TZR is 10 minutes away
Check the spark plug cap, I chased an issue on a 2017 for months, turned out the plug was arcing due to a crack in the cap.
check the fuses under the seat......There should be a dummy fuse.....replace the good fuse with the dummy fuse
Keep your ride going strong with our fuel top-off service. Need to fill up in between rides? We've got you covered. Experience a smooth and uninterrupted ride by ensuring that your fuel pump is functioning optimally. Avoid temporary fuel starvation and cutouts that can disrupt your journey.
If you haven’t done so yet , replace that piece of crap plastic in tank filter that fails at the bond joint with a metal Napa 3095 or equivalent filter. When those fail it can cause anything from a bog off of idle to the condition you are experiencing.
Pit Row
I have just replaced the in tank filter system with the KTM kit , wasn't hard at all . I don't have gas shooting upward in the tank anymore when running the bike so hopefully that was it . I'm going to do a GP race today and try it out , seems like the safest way to test it . I didn't know about the Napa replacement until after I received the kit , should have done more research also didn't think about checking fuses . I'll let you know after today how it goes Thanks again for all your help
I did a GP event today and put a little more than an hour on the bike with no issues at all , bike ran perfect all day . I even switched up the maps also . So hopefully it's back to normal now .
What is your idle set at? As an old 2 stroke guy I always want to slow down the RPM from the suggested 1800 RPM idle speed.
It is probably about 1400 but no way for me to check that . I was at a local MX track yesterday and didn't have any issues at all . It did seem a little lean on top end power and fuel was squirting upward a little . I think I might just buy a new fuel pump anyway . They're expensive but better safe than sorry I guess. I do notice they updated to newer version also
The min RPM for idle should be no less than 1800
I installed the new fuel pump assembly and installed the metal filter instead of the plastic one while I was on there . It was tough getting the clamps to work over the metal lips of the filter . I'll take it for a ride today but it started ok and I'll turn the idle up
My 23 350 has stalled 2 times in mid air. I wonder if this has to do with higher outside temps and running temps. Never did this until friday, was really hot, mid day, cut out twice over jump, not at take off, mid air, did not touch brake etc. I am an old man, first 4 stroke, they did not barley exist in my day, but this is crazy.
will increase idle. had it in for valve adjustment a few months ago, runs fine, strange. Almost at shit, when I landed, was like hitting a wall, almost went ass over head
I went through same thing but luckily not in the air it was coming out of corners . I replaced the whole fuel pump assembly and has been good ever since . Ktms seem to have more problems like this than any other brand . It doesn't breed confidence for sure
yes, almost every stock KTM 4-stroke needs the idle turned up a few clicks. Will make a nice difference and lessen stalling and reduce engine braking a little. Setting the TPS will also help, as they are generally on the lean side stock.
Just looking inside my 19 350 manual and recommended idle is 2200 rpm.
