Need opinions. I have a 2005 Suzuki RMZ 450 RC Edition. I am interested in getting rid of it as it doesn't fit my riding style or the type of riding I do any longer. Do you think people are collecting these bikes yet and building replica bikes like RC raced years back? I know the McGrath replica bikes are super hot right now and everyone is doing the 96 250 or the old 91 125s. I'm just wondering if I should sell it as is or dress it back up like the RC bike (#4 plates, single exhaust, etc.). The other kicker is that I picked up a dual race spec FMF exhaust for the bike and mounted it up. It was made for this bike back then for SX riders and I was told only 3 or 4 racers got it on this bike.
Give me some feedback and let me know what your gut feeling is or what you are seeing out there. Thanks! Justin

If it's not actually RCs bike, it's not worth any more than the other Rmz 450s.

Na, you will have to wait another 10 years, then replace everything worn out with stock showroom new stuff before you will even get near the collectors market.

I remember Ryan Hughes saying those pipes helped balance the bike out. Lol.

Have an 07 at home, with a brand new still in the box Athena big bore kit for it. Been in a million pieces since 09, going to lose my ass on this one, but have read a lot of comments saying it's a solid bike. Put it together and ride the effin thing, I guess.

.... if I already had it all a part.... I'd go for a RMZ-RM 300
like this

fyi; you can add the '07 plastic to the '05, that's what I did back in the day
solid bike, but it's about 10 yrs old for a 4 stroke = 20 yrs old (in dog years)

Ooooooh, that my Zook was a 2 stroke, Norcal. That's actually why I bought it grenaded, to make into my AF. Familiar with THAT story? Lol. Just going to put it together with a shitload of new parts, sell it, and lose money. That's how I ROLL, man.
That conversion is a nice looking ride, the F-bomb too. Cool

I had an 06 straight out of Suzukis MXGP team. It where only 6 hours on it. All trick parts where replaced with the stock though, except for the yellow excel wheels and some mounts. It was supposed to go to a Swedish factory rider but it turned out differently and I picked it up for almost nothing. It's was solid, the manual cam chain tension sucked. I sold it two seasons later for the same amount. Laughing

Oh yeah..... Rhymes w/ mps

Yes, if I had the skills
I'd go for an af smoker
But maybe part out the RMZ motor and stuff on eBay
And look for a 04+ rm 250 motor and look into an eg 295 upgrade

... Just sayn' Cool

I got it from Willy Browning in Ohio. I've been told they made 3 or 4 of these exhaust for this bike and he was picked to run one either during the Nationals or SX.

That would be nice! I'm going to send a photo over to Lil D at FMF and see what he has to say about it.

Yeah you make a good point. I've realized also that RC ran Pro Circuit and right there would be around $800 just in exhaust to make more of a RC replica. I'm leaning toward selling or trading as is. Thanks for you help!

If I remember correctly, you could buy the dual system back in the day for this bike. Ryno used to run it on his RMZ also. FWIW, I finally got rid of my 05 RMZ 450 last year with a nearly fresh top end. Everything new except cams. Had been sitting for about 6 years, so still fairly low hours for an 05. Aftermarket rims, hubs, exhaust, clamps, oversize radiators, etc. I wouldn't expect to get anything over $1700.
