I don't get the system. If your going to have a number system than have a true legitimate system like the WMX.
Is it that hard to have it like that?

Even just doing the top ten in each class would be better than they whack system now.

I hope it changes.

Tell me about it... They changed it for the 2001 season and I think I was "Grand National" champion in 2000. Should have had #3 in 01... hehehe

2-99 should be earned 450 "grand national" numbers

the champs of each respective series can run their earned #1's in the respective series they earned them in.

all 450 rookies and 250f riders should be triple digit.

fixed.

And here I was thinking I was the only moto head staying up late catching up on the silly season... Yes the way they do it now confuses the hell out of me, and pretty much everyone else too from what ive seen.

I dont exactly understand it either...
People say; that for a rider to retain a number of their choice, they must win a championship?
If that is the case then why has Barcia lost the #17 if he is east coast champion?

am i the only one that gets excited to see the improved riders from season past when they earn and are honored with a lower number for the new season?
the old system rocks!
modern number system is STAIL and COMPLACENT!
i enjoy seeing low "earned" number riders out there with occasional 3 digit or high 2 digit rider dicing with them . maybe i like to get excited for the underdog or rookie.go figure.
why cant the riders apply their name on the side panels for brand advertising w/ the earned number on front.
or even an insigna /badge design, like the "jse" that stewart uses on his products.

SX Lites East and West aren't National championships. They are considered regional championships and don't count towards the numbering.

How much simpler do you want it? Around the beginning of October every year, they AMA releases the number that are to be used the following year. It doesn't get any simpler than that!

The thing I think is totally f*cked is that the numbering system spans both series but the class names don't? Seriously wtf?

I was done with the numbering system and retards that run it when they retired #4 for "X" amount of years, but MC's #2 was up for grabs a year after he didn't race. SERIOUS BIAS going on there.

the thing that i dont like is they let tomac skip a number but everyone else had to take what they were given. defeats their own idea.

A 7 race regional supercross title does not carry national championship status. Those points and titles have never counted towards a national number. It has been this way since the beginning of time.

In the last 20 years only 4 riders have run number 13. Heath Voss is the only rider to run it for more than one season. It is almost never used. Swink had it on MotoXXX and switched to 103 mid season, And Toroelli had it on Factory Honda and changed over to 103 at the end of that year when he went to Suzuki. The tradition is that it is not issued unless someone wants to use it.

Tomac does not deserve any grief for nor running it.

It means you will probably get a good paycheck to ride the 450 class.

The intent of the series and the reality of what it has become have obviously changed but the national championship status is still not attached to it.

I think he was referring to the fact that if you win a Lites SX title it doesn't carry any weight as far as earning a single digit number. A Lites MX title does, but not a Reginal SX title. Again, it's a really jacked up system.

they should atleast carry championship points. even if they do they are still at a disadvantage of 10 races. why make it even worse.

If you are just learning this, you haven't been paying much attention......

Old rule, been that way long before the "new" numbering system was put into play.

I don't really give a crap what number is on the bikes. I watch races, not numbers. Seems like that's the point. It obviously matters to some people though.

As to how they go about aqcuiring those numbers for each rider could be MUCH easier

What we use North of the border is a little more straight forward, but I still have a bitch of a time explaining it to people.

Top 10 numbers are top 10 championship finish positions for MX1 riders. 11 through 20 are the top 10 from the MX2 championship, although 13 is actually out of the rotation, so those numbers actually represent the top 9.

Numbers 21 through 100 are also points-based, but it's total points from either class (no distinction between MX1 and MX2. Robby Marshall finished 11th in MX1, so he gets 21. The next number goes to MX2 rider Dylan Kaelin who equalled Marshall in points, but rode MX2.

The number plates 21 and beyond are tough to sort out, but they are still somewhat representative of a rider's position from the season before.

Have I confused anybody yet?
