I remember going to the bike shop as a kid and these bikes looked so cool with the big #1's on them. Seemed like ten feet tall to at the time.

1984 YZ250 RIGHT by teyblyy, on Flickr

I had an 1985 one of these jewels and dame was it fast. The downside was that it turned like an ocean liner and the suspension would bottom out over everything and then rebound so bad it would try to buck you off. They just don't build bikes with that kind of personality any more.

Again great motor but horrible suspension. This bike had the harshest forks I have ever ridden on. Bone jarring. I thought it looked nice at the time though.

I only rode one of these once. I got to try it out at a demo day and promptly looped it out in front of everyone. Not one of my prouder moments.

I loved the look of this these graphics when the 95's came out bout damn they look silly now. Still better than the purple and red CR's though I think. Damn the early 90's were a weird time for bikes.

I loved mine. Not the fastest but it handled great. It would settle in nice in the turns and would track a strait line through the roughest sections. A Bills Pipe made a huge power gain also.

I had a Tommy Hahn moment on my 87 right after i got it. Going great...then all of a sudden i was high-sideing. It spit me off so fast i didnt know what happened. I was the mechanic/team owner/rider, so i yelled at myself when i got back to the pits

Great motor for hard-pack tracks though

I had a 87 490. I absolutely loved that bike. Got bad reviews but I thought it was a hell of a machine. It felt like a mini-bike riding it.

Had me one of them bad boys. Loved it. The ironic thing: When you added in the letter for the year model, that thing was officially called the YZ400F.

Yup. Turned very well for the straight line stability it had.

The mighty Air Hammer. My buddy had one of these babies and it was a death trap. It had horrible suspension and a hard to ride motor. Plus it had vibration like no bike I have ever ridden.

They were just talking about Washougal being the spot where a lot of the factories would shoot their magazine and commercial ads in one of the pre-story write ups last week. Can't think of a better place!
