I have gotten to the point where all my bikes have been massaged within an inch of their lives and I've hit a brick wall on things to tinker with. My solution was to get a completely clapped out 90's CR250 just for something to work on. I managed to find almost the perfect candidate through a Craiglist bike wanted ad. A '92, not far away, that the owner had actually gotten the bottom end done, the jug replated, and then basically put it all on the shelf because of time and/or money. He also had the frame professionally blasted, but then rattle canned it, but that's another story... Frame is off at the powder coaters, and the engine case cleaning has begun.

I figure I've got a sold month of something to mess around with. The biggest obstacle I can see it locating a non clapped out airbox. Most of the other parts I can scrounge of eBay, or recondition myself.

I had lots of fun redoing my 92. Had good luck finding parts for it. It started a bug for me redoing 92-96 CRs.

Looks great!

My main concern was the airbox, but now that I have that under control, I think everything is pretty starightforward.

Frame should come back from powder coating this week, and I should have the motor ready to pop in when it does. In the meantime, lots and lots of cleaning....

You might try "Argent Silver" (car) wheel paint from Eastwood Co or similar. If memory serves its very close to the case color.

Thanks for tip, I will look into it. I assume a wheel paint would be pretty solvent resistant as well.

Making a little progress. Finished soda blasting motor, getting ready to go back in frame, which comes back from powdercoaters tomorrow.

Took awhile to get delivery on a swingarm, as the one that came with the bike was crack at one of the bearing bosses.

Frame is back, motor assembled, all linkage and steering bearings replaced.

Alright, I totally had to shelve this for awhile, but I'm back on the horse now. I'm going with '93 plastic, for no other reason than I just like it a little more.

When I was pulling the old seat cover off, I found another seat cover underneath! Good thing too, because the top one was held on with house staples and thumb tacks.

My 89 has an ugly 80s ceet cover on it. I’ve ordered a new one but saw this post and thought, huh, maybe I should go check and see if there’s two seat covers. Sure as hell the stock seat cover was under there and in great shape! Haha sometimes you get lucky

Ha, that's awesome. The underneath cover on this one was actually a black, pink and purple Ceet gripper. No idea where the stock one went.

Starting to look like a million bucks now. Great to see the progress. Hopefully you will have it running soon.

I’m in the process of finishing a 92 myself! It’s been too many years laying in parts so I figured now is the time. I have a little bit left to do, but the bulk of the work has been completed.

This pic was taken in1991 right after I got home from buying it. I liked this CR250 much more than my ‘91, but not as much as my ‘93.

I could tell it was a vintage picture. I agree on the bikes too, I think the 93 was better. That and 96 are my favorites.

I totally remember when Honda came out with that bike. I made a bet with a friend of mine over what the color was because he thought it was a shade of pink and I thought orange. As it turned out nobody won because it was red.... "Nuclear Red" as Honda dubbed it.
