1998 rm 250 pro Ama bike

Edited Date/Time 1/7/2016 6:37pm
Ok I bought this bike and found some useful information from one of the guys on here. I would like to know if I can get the rider who rode this bike and any info on it. It has all works connection stuff except the welded brackets for the lower skid plate. And the frames welds have been reinforced in the frame has been painted the same color it should be. Ama number 11*90 and the vin is in the photo
Thank you

Yeah...Need to see more of the bike. That tech number won't help anyone identify it...it just means it went through tech. I did 2 nationals on a 98 rm 250...but there were lots of guys riding them. What area it's from might help too.

Could you post more pictures of the frame? Areas where it might have been re-welded/gusseted?

Rockstar Energy drinks didn't start as a company until 2001, and the bike graphics were after that, so its pretty safe to assume that the graphics were put on well after whoever raced it professionally. The welded skid plate brackets and frame gussets, and gold rims leads me to believe it COULD be a top name riders old bike - maybe not though. I think this might be a little early for one of Pastrana's bikes, but who knows...

The linkage dogbones are aftermarket. Never seen that before on a 96-98 RM

Looks to me like this 1998 Larry Ward bike has similar linkage.

I guess just because the bike was found in Maryland doesn't necessarily mean that it originated there BUT Tommy Welch was a fast Pro from Maryland that rode Suzuki's in 98, he mostly rode 125's but I would think that he may of had a 250 as well, most guys had both back then, maybe you could try and find him on facebook or something and start there or contact AMA Pro racing and see if they have records of AMA tags, it is the AMA so they may not have been organized that well back then but asking wont hurt. The other thing you may be able to do is contact Suzuki and see if they can tell you who the Vin was registered to in 98 when it was sold new, any pro would have registered it with them to earn contingency money.

Yeah it's to bad the AMA didn't keep track of the AMA tags.

Both of my 97 RM250s had the Joe basic cast dogbones. I'm willing to bet a cold IPA those from the pictures are aftermarket, but for the life of me I don't know who was making aftermarket linkages for Suzuki. Devol maybe?

Looks like I stand corrected. Surprising that Suzuki went to so much effort on the dogbones, but a nice detail.
