I'm looking to buy a couple solid workbenches, 6-8' long x 24-30" deep x 36-42" high.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good source?
I'd like to spend $150-180 per bench, but not finding anything decent ... not too much selection at Sears, Home Cheapo, Lowes, Harbor Freight.
Thanks!

Lowes sells lumber homie, you ca make a 24"x 8' with 1 sheet of 3/4 and about 10 2x4s.

Was browsing through my photo to see if I had one with what I did, has one self at the bottom to hold all my tool boxes. I can take a better photo if you like. Just a simple wood bench i've used the piss out of for the last 10 years.

2 x 4's the way to go, make exactly what you need. When I built mine I went to my local plumber and me made me a rolled metal top for the working surface, probably invested no more than $150 total.

Build your own is the way to go. I bought a 3/4 piece of sanded plywood 4x8 at Lowes for $35. I had them cut 2 feet off it, so I had a 2x4 foot peice. Then I had them slice the 6 foot piece into a 28 inch x 6 foot piece and a 20 inch by 6 foot piece. I also got about a dozen 2x4's. I made a 6 foot bench with a 20 inch backsplash. I put a 4.5 inch shelf on the backsplash for cans of grease, carb spray and stuff. Then with the 2x4 foot piece I made another bench with no backsplash for the tool box and bench grinder. There was enough 2x4's to frame a shelf under each bench, and I had some thin plywood I put on those. It's solid as hell and works good for me.I rent this house and didn't want to get to fancy. A bigger one just collects more clutter. I bought the cheapest can of paint and painted it, and the whole thing cost me less than $90, and about 4 hours to make.

For sure building your own is the way to. I have built a few now, for trailers and for my garage. All have cost less than getting a nice work bench that wont fall apart in a year if you use it a bunch like I do.

Build. Just look around at what other people have done and you will get some ideas.

Here's my garage bench I built a couple years ago.

I used the medium duty racking from lowes and used doubled up 3/4 ply for the bench top , just another option . I still plan on building an all steel mobile jig/welding table but the racking isnt too flimsy once you bolt it to the floor.

Yeah, plywood, 2x4s, and drywall screws and build your own. I went a little nuts and built about 40' of workbench that goes along the walls along with an island between the two bikes.
