I am curious as to what things would make you or entice you to switch which shop/dealer you deal with? I know a lot of people have been with one certain shop the whole time they have been racing or at least for a good while, and loyalty is a very good thing!!!
But is there anything that has been done somewhere else that has opened your eyes a little to the idea of switching shops? I know that oviously a FREE bike would probably get anyone to jump ship, but what about some sort of contingency plan or a full kind of "TEAM" deal where everything from tires, oil, gear and goggles has already been determined and all you have to do is sign on to be able to get a good discount on it all? Or...how bout some form of being rewarded for the amount of money you spend in the shop, where you can eventually get some free stuff!!!???
These are just some ideas on something that I was curious about. Please feel free to let me know any of your ideas.

i find it easier to click "buy it now" online for certain things, especially from my sponsors (like readyfilter, so cheap and easy no need for me to go anywhere else) but for all my oem parts and 'gotta have it now' sort of things, i stick to my one dealership for a few reasons. number one, ive made friends with the crew at the parts counter, they help me out with a healthy discount, and i help them out by spending my money, and them getting comission from it. customer service is also a big reason, when i go in, they see me standing in line, say hello, etc. always make sure im taken care of, and i never feel rushed or pushed aside. maybe because i spend so much money in there, maybe because i have brought them a lot of buisness from the group of riders i ride with, i dunno. Plus its more of a friendly relationship of fellow riders helping each other out, then a buisness relationship of "i need this" and hearing "pay the lady at the counter, it will be here in 2 buisness days". those are the reasons i stay with my dealership.

I find my local shops (even the ones that "sponsor/sponsored" me) don't stock the parts I use. Yes, for the most part, they have chains and sprockets (and I buy them there), but they quit stocking clutches, baskets, water pump seals, spokes, etc. It's much easier to dial 1-800-sendittomyshop.
Terrible, but cheaper and faster than to order it through my shop(s).
Now, if I got a good price and the shop could "drop ship" the stuff directly to me (rather than charging for double shipping).....even then, that's not worth it for the shop to go through the paperwork with so little margin....again, terrible, but true.
I spend 60% of my $$ from the web....maybe more. X-Ray tables are always too cold.

to me its all about customer service and price... i go to about 3-4 shop regularly. one has awesome prices and great customer service so i try to go there as much as possible but its a bit further than the rest unless im on the way home. the closest well their prices are okay but their customer service sucks! so i avoid them except as a last ditch effort the next closest has higher prices but good CS but they usuallly will cut me a deal on the price so they usually get most of my business.... 05 CRF450 #N8

I agree, it's nice to be recognized and to bench race a little.... X-Ray tables are always too cold.

I use to run a yamaha dealership and I made it a point to make everone feel special, reconized and treated them fairly. I now work for myself and practice the same. You are correct most people just want to be treated fairly, good customer service and of course knowing who they are it a plus.

For OEM parts, I get everything from motosport outlet. I can order right off of the web and have it shipped right to my door. I can order anytime I want and I don't have to wait for them to order it until Saturday when they do there once a week special orders like most dealers do. I also don't have to waste gas driving to the dealer twice to get the parts, once to order them and once to pick them up.
For Bikes I get my Hondas from a dealer about 45 minutes away in Georgia, they don't give really killer prices, but they also don't tack on all kinds of bullshit dealer fees either.
For Suz, Kaw, and Yam's I get them from a dealer in Fayetteville, NC. They give good prices and once again don't tack on all kinds of BS dealer fees. When I get a bike from there I schedule to pick it up in conjunction with my Army Reserve duty at Fort Bragg, so I am not just making a 400 mile trip there for the bike. I picked up a brand new 08 Ninja 250 almost 2 weeks ago there and my final price including paying taxes, plates, etc... was $1,300 less than the dealer wanted in Jacksonville, FL. The base price of the bike was very close at both dealerships, but the one in Jacksonville wanted to add all kinds of made up bullshit fees. I had to laugh at some of the FEEs they were trying to tack on.
What do I need a dealer for? To sell me a bike and that is about it. If they give me a fair price then I will go back to them for the next one. I avoid dealers that tack on all kinds of FEES to the bike purchase.

I'm pretty much doing the same as Nagy. Motosport/Rockymountain for my parts and out of state for my bikes to avoid sales tax.
The only dealer that I use locally has an MX track on the property (which is huge for them), so I pop in there once in awhile to buy misc, and closeout gear/casual clothing. I miss

I buy LOTS of parts through my local shop. I do all my own service work. I really don't see me switching shops but here are a couple observations.
All I get is a deep discount. The occasional "sponsored part" would be nice.
If that shop were to screw up by getting the wrong part, or taking too too too long to get a correct part, I'd look elsewhere. It would take a major goof.
More knowledge about off road bike parts and accessories would be killer. Right now, I know way more about the bikes and accessories than they do. Read the catalogues guys.....
Location, if someone closer would match their pricing and service, i'd consider.
I don't buy bikes from the shop I get parts from. They will not make a good deal. So, I buy low hour used or elsewhere. A great deal on a bike would help at the shop I use.

Back in the day, while I worked for a Yamaha shop we would stay after hours on Wednesday and work on our racers and some of our customers would stop in with their bikes and a 6 pack and while they bought the parts we would install them, bench race and have a good time. Good Times!!

Does the shop have people who know what they are talking about at the track on race weekends and available daily in their shop if I need their help? Good mechanics available?
Are they carrying the parts and the know how to keep my son going on race day especially if I am at the track with him on my own? ( coming from a Mom who was often at the track with her son on her own this year)
One thing we also consider is support for the local racing scene and at the races we attend. Both at the local and national level. I think it is important for a shop to be where their racers are.

That would depend on what level of sponsorship you have. Not everyone can afford to just give stuff away, but they may pass something along at actual cost with no markup. Nowadays, every little bit helps. When current ex factory riders are having a tough time finding a deal, how easy do you think it is for a long time privateer such as Matt Shue to get a break. But for what it's worth Matt, I ended up with some of the parts from your 01 RM125's and one of your old jerseys is part of my kids collection. Hope all is well, glad to see your name still popping up from time to time.

Every shop I have worked at has always had some type of racer working there and many of the owners play rode 2. Of course that's in So Cal along time ago.

Thanks everybody!! I wasn't expecting such a quick response from so many people.
Hey privateerconnection, jkkt, JoJmoto and newmann!! I do have something new in the works and it should be made public next week. It will be primarily in the Southeast and will involve more than one shop in more than one state. I will be the Race Support Coordinator and will be attending races all over the Southeast with some sort of rig...and not just MX. Road races and Off-road races will be included. LOL Hope that's not too vague for ya????
I will let everyone know next week. Also, if any of you are from or near GA, you should come check out a brand new track this weekend called Moon's Farm!! It is a family that I have beed friends with for some time now and has one of the BEST tracks in the Southeast. A full on, natural terrain, great outdoors MX track that is finally being open to the public. Don't MISS IT!!!

No loyalty. None whatsoever. Best price and quickest delivery gets my business.
Different online store every week. Takes seconds to shop prices online. Tired of asking for "price match" on stuff.
Dealerships with a huge motocross selection cannot survive in most parts of the country. Sport is too small and seasonal.

SoCal shops are full of IDIOT wanna bees now. Not all but the majority.
Also, not every snot nosed mx riders/racer is deserving of a discount. But most think they deserve it. Pisses shops off.
I'm selective on the local shops I use. Customer service is #1. Recognizing me and the bike I ride is #2, Product selection #3, Pricing #4. Lately the trend in SoCal is that many shops are price matching other shops or on-line prices. They are putting in the effort trying to earn your business over you shopping and purchasing on-line. The downside is that one would never know that unless you stepped into their store/shop!

The main thing I want is that they have it "IN STOCK" not just hard parts but also boots, helmets, gear,Handle bars etc etc. If they have it so I can handle it or try it on and buy it NOW and take it with me then I am happy.
I dont care if it costs more as long as they have it so I can get it right now. you dont have to give me a discount or anything thing for free just treat me with respect and have lots of cool things in stock. 30+ years of MX racing Im not just getting older but getting slower everyday.
