lol wasn't that an april fools joke?
Jett’s balls are firmly in HRCs hands and being caressed.
It does beg the question though…
Let’s say Jett cleans house for the next 2-3 years. Is there a point at which HRC decides that the win and championship bonuses (on top of contract salary) are no longer worth it?
Ask RC4…
Turd burglar reporting Deegan to TM in 2036
Honda would never get rid of MC or RC in their prime would they?
Yes they're 2-0 letting riders go after championship seasons, so just going by their record alone tells fans and Jett they will drop him soon.
Mc was also nearly 30 years ago. And Honda didn’t let Mc go as much as mc wanted out of Honda…
Honda didn't get rid of MC, MC left Honda
MC left Honda because of how horrible the '97 CR 250 was, plus all the extra curricular non moto stuff Honda was trying to stop him from doing. Honda let RC go because (along with the rest of the moto universe at the time) they thought James was the "next big thing" and wanted to clean house to sign him. There is nobody in the pipeline right now that is close to Jett's level; at least for the foreseeable future. Everyone that is on his level; or close, will be retired within the next 4years. I would bet my bottom dollar that Jett and Honda will be together for a very, very long time. Quite possibly for his whole career.
These thread titles are dumbgeon gold. If the next thread says: "TOMAC SIGNS WITH DUCATI FOR 10 YEARS" I wouldn't be surprised at all...
Pit Row
I can't imagine a manufacturer letting a rider go for winning too much, and that someone else would be willing to pay him more. Now Jett getting tired of the pressure and having tens of millions by age 26, I could believe an early retirement is possible.
I heard Deegan signed with Mongoose for '32 already.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they let Jett go. They have a track record of continuously letting riders go.
Whether like the MC case where he left, Honda had first right to keep him and didn’t make it happen. Same with RC, Honda had first right. Honda also let Tomac go after being with them for a long time.
yesterday was May 1 not April 1
Yeah they might let Jett go in 5-6 years if someone younger and just as fast is available. That would fit Honda's MO from 20-30 years ago. It is also possible they have changed in that time.
Agreed, anything is possible isn’t it.
Rossi, Marquez, Lawson in road racing. All champs Honda lost.
This was an April fools joke (posted on April 1) that has somehow kicked back into the algorithm. This is 1000% not true 😅
Also proof that no one watches more than 8 seconds on Instagram.
This. Exactly.
Looks like the OP is a month late on posting, shouldn't this have been posted on April 1st not May 1st?
When RC left Honda he had just been out of SX with a knee injury and they did not think he would recover and be at the level he was at before. Along with trying to sign Stewart . RC has talked about how the higher ups at Honda did not believe in him after, I am foggy on the details but I think they wanted to change up his pay too. Make it less base, more bonus. But a little foggy on those details. He ended up giving all of the employees at Honda a piece of each race win bonus. It worked out to $365 or so per person. And they were calling him Mr. $365 because of the bonus he gave them every week that summer after having another perfect season.
IF there is somebody coming up that looks to be on another level like Stewart at the time, and Jett is showing signs of slowing down, has a major injury etc. Maybe then I could see Honda doing something like they did with RC. But at the time RC also wanted to leave since he felt like Honda no longer believed in him. RC was able to take Monster with him when he went to Suzuki. Jett would not be able to do that with Red Bull going to Kawasaki. If anything, I could see him going to KTM or who knows what other brands may be an option by 2027.
Honda had a long dry spell. Before Jett, I can’t see them letting him go, at least for two years
