I just bought a 2023 yz85 off of marketplace and the owner had got a dealership to rebuild the motor and the dealership ended up putting an Athena full cylinder kit on it. Bike runs great and doesn’t seem to have any problems with the cylinder kit but I was wondering about using different brands of pistons or gaskets. Do I have to buy a specific piston and gasket set for the kit? Can I use other brands? Does Athena sell pistons and gasket that are for the bike but for only the OEM cylinder? If so where do I buy only the Athena cylinder kit gaskets and pistons from? I just don’t want to order a piston or gasket set and it not fit due to the cylinder kit. Thank you

Athena does sell bolt-on big bore kits for the YZ85.  There's a good chance that might be what you have.  Here are all the kits for the YZ85.  in each one you'll find info about if it requires specific Athena gaskets, etc.

I know that it’s for sure not a big bore and is in fact the standard bore. But I just can’t find anything on parts interchangeability with the Athena stuff.

Right there in the link I posted:

"WARNING: the cylinder head and base gaskets contained in the kit are specifically developed for Athena cylinders kits. Whenever the cylinder kit is disassembled, replace the gaskets with the specific Athena spare gasket kit: DO NOT use OE replacement gaskets."

So from my understanding, I’d have to use the gasket kit that’s for the cylinder kit but I can use other brand pistons?

As far as piston, I don't have direct experience with this particular scenario.  If it was me, I'd just use an Athena piston since there's no real reason not to.  They are cheap and readily available.  If I was real curious I'd have an Athena one and an OEM one side by side to compare and measure just for future reference.
