Same lol. I need to stay off the internet...
I had to delete Facebook because of marketplace and all the endless temptations lmao!!
Both you guys have more money than me. Go buy a damn bike and thank me later.
Damn if that ain't the truth button the flip side I can't sell shit on FB anymore no matter how low you go. People just are not spending any money.
The Shop
It’s $7398 plus $546 in sales tax, plus $99 doc fee puts you at $8036 OTD
paid $7838 OTD for my 2020 KX 450
on my 24 KX450 paid $7899 plus $560 NC tax, and $99 doc fee = $8643 OTD on 3/23/24
Did you ever get a chance to ride or race the original layout at ECMX? Loved it. Haven't raced the "newer" layout. 402 Trails designed the new layout but all the sand I guess got mixed into the base, its totally different.
Thanks , so should be 7398+99$ doc fee out the door as an out of state cash buyer, should be no sales tax. I’d finance and let the cash ride in a savings account earning 5% but I think that would force my hand to pay sales tax and make it not worth it.
My 19 was roughly 6750 or so in November of 19 after the team green money. Doesn’t even make sense to buy early and team green them when rebates are as high as they are now.
Been a minute since I was last there
That track is a pure sand track, very deep under race conditions, last race it rained the night before so practice and first Moto was a mud fest.. second Moto was very tacky, finished 3 overall last October
Not sure what the being out of state tax policy is??
surely they’d hit you up with State sales tax upon purchase?
I have to pay sales tax in the midwest buying bikes in MN while I live in WI.
Finance or cash doesnt make a difference.
I've Purchased new bikes at a dealer from 3 different states of which i'm not a resident, paid cash, and did not have to pay sales tax. Some states may have reciprocity agreements that avoid this, or "dealer must deliver out of state" to avoid collecting, but i've never had to deal with that.
Sucker, have Ballz or I handle it for you next time...
I've mentioned this before when the topic of avoiding sales tax by buying out of state comes up, but I'll repeat it in case it saves someone some serious heartburn - thoroughly research the topic beforehand to potentially avoid paying a lot more than the sales tax.
There were a lot of dealers using this as a sales tactic in the Southeastern US about 20 years ago and the loss of sales tax revenue was large enough to get noticed by the DOR in these states. They collaborated with each other and audited the dealers. Most (if not all) of the states have "use tax" clause in their tax code that requires buyers of out of state items that are not taxed at the time of purchase to delcare the item and pay the sales tax to the state where they reside. Failure to do so can result in resident state DOR sending a nastygram to the purchaser (sometimes many years later, as there is no sunset clause on the debt) informing them that they owe a significant amount in back taxes, penalites and interest that have accrued since the date of purchase. I've seen an original tax bill of a few hundred become several thousand by the time they get done with their pound-of-flesh magical math, as they treat these people as tax evaders and do their best to throw the book at them.
So, it's up to the buyer to either know in advance or risk paying an exhorbitant amount later... and then being on their radar forever.
Risk versus reward - it's an individual choice.
Hope it helps someone.
Pretty sure it comes down to the state laws…
nowadays NC charges tax on internet sales when buying parts online
On most vehicles (dirt bikes) you are required to pay sales tax when you register/title the unit. You can buy a bike out of state and not pay sales tax, but when you get it home you will need to pay tax when you register it.
That's why I said to thoroughly research the topic, as laws vary from state to state... but one thing that doesn't is that the excuse "I didn't know" doesn't work with them.
And the 2018 Supreme Court case of South Dakota v. Wayfair allows states to tax online retailers, even if the sellers have no physical presence in state. So, every state that I'm aware of requires online sellers to collect the sales tax due in the state in which the buyer resides. That's why everyone started paying taxes on RMATV and eBay a few years back when they hadn't before.
Again, it varies from locale to locale, so know what's required where you live.
Just trying to help.
I think that’s a federal thing but I could be wrong. Point being is NC dealer wouldn’t need to charge an out of state cash buyer sales tax at time of sale, because theoretically they will pay it when they register it in their home state. Weather they decide to register it and pay tax at that point is on the individual, and the disclosures of horror stories are above.
I’m not going to delve any deeper as it really doesn’t matter, everyone is free to do as they choose.
The state I live in doesn't require titling or registration of dirt bikes but does require the buyer to declare and pay sales tax on out of state purchases in the amount that would be due for the county they live in, unless they have a receipt showing they paid the sales tax for the state in which it was bought at the time of the sale. It's called a Use Tax and is supposed to be declared on the State Income Tax filing forms and paid at that time. If you don't and they find out, they will charge the sales tax that would have been due at the time of sale for the county in which you reside along with penalties and interest that recur and acrue in perpetuity until the amount is paid to the DOR. And they can wait years and let the debt build to quite a handsome sum before notifying you of the situation... and you have no recourse because that's the way the law is written - it's all "legal". They don't care if you say you weren't aware of it or you would have paid it off sooner and therefore don't owe all the penalties, late fees, interest, etc. They just say, "Pay up". They can treat it like a secret savings account if they want and spring it on you at any time. Like I said, you don't want to get in this situation if you can avoid it.
Street bikes, cars, etc., that require titling and registration are going to be captured in the system, regardless of where they're purchased, so that's not an issue.
Some guys might have the benefit of a state that doesn't check on such matters or doesn't require the tax on these purchases, but I don't know as I'm no expert on the matter, just familiar with it in my area.
I will say there isn't any enforcement or tracking mechanism for units bought from private individuals, just businesses required to collect sales tax, so if we buy a used dirt bike, ATV, etc., from someone in-state or out, the tax man isn't going to come after us because they don't know about it.
Take care.
Pit Row
So you’re just assuming.. Thanks
pretty sure you’re paying the tax.. plus a dirt bike is not a registered vehicle in the surrounding south east states, they are not registered in NC so no way for the state to collect property tax through such unregistered vehicle, so they collect it up front in the purchase price
growing up in NY we never registered a “competition use only” vehicle either
Assuming what?
Let me ride your new one in June ha
never mind
Having the screen name “Village idiot” says enough..?
So, the fact that you can't understand well-written, plain English and seem to be conflating sales tax charged on the sale of a new bike and property taxes levied against real property makes me the dumb one and the target of a childish attempt at an insult on your part?
Oooookaaaaay...
They say no good deed goes unpunished, so maybe I should have expected it.
Well, if you're unclear on something I've posted, just ask and I'll do the best I can to clarify... but there were no "assumptions" in my posts, just info from experiences and a warning to check on the laws in your state to see if this might apply to you before you possibly get yourself in a bind.
Hopefully this has been of some help to someone contemplating buying a bike out of state to avoid paying the sales tax on the transaction, but let me know if you have a question and I'll see if I can answer it.
Have a good weekend everyone.
You really like to hear yourself talk? Don’t you?
Hello pot, hello kettle!
Ok dumbass?
Thanks for proving my point.. now go ride, oh wait your just another wannabe with all the right answers.. never mind your types never rides or did anything worthwhile
Look, there's no shame in being confused - just ask and I'll be glad to help if I can.
After all, you wouldn't want to be dumber than an Idiot, would you?
No shame having a screen name like Village Idiot
sadly you think you’re smart.. but on the contrary? You have proven otherwise.. 🤡🤡
