I recently bought this bike as a project to keep me busy while I recover from shoulder surgery. Little did I realize that the 2004 was a one year only bike when it comes to the top end and RC valve.

I did I little thinking and decided I'll keep the project and do my best to build it up as good as I can.

I have already bought the new 2005-2007 airbox and boot. I also got 47mm twin chamber showa forks and a showa shock off a 2004 crf250.

I'm also replacing all the bearings in the bottom end and rebuilding the crank.

I had to buy a new cylinder since the one that came with the bike had a 2mm over bore and that's not the route I'm taking. The cylinder head is at a shop right now getting welded up and machined back to oem spec.

I'm planning on having Pro Curcuit do the top end since I have had very good luck with them in the past.

I'm still searching for a Pro Circuit work pipe...

I'll do my best to update as the build moves forward. I'm in no rush, just buying parts as I find them.

Hope everyone following will enjoy.

Any input is welcome.

This was just a mock up for the forks.

I have always wanted to do a CR 125 build!

DocWob had built this 250 at a classic bike show I attended in the UK a couple months ago,

The only things I would do differently to below are - do it on a 125 but also..

- Black number boards (Cycra black front number board with 4 stroke front fender)

- Black Rims

- Black fork lowers

- possibly gunmetal grey cerekote calipers

I also don't care much for the red triple clamps.

Picture below with above changes gives such a cool standard/oem but factory look

Will be watching to see how the build goes and what route you take!

Good luck

I am just about going the route you are describing, I am however doing red clamps. Waiting on my black cycra stadium plate to come in.

Also just ordered some motostuff rotors and caliper hanger, banjo bolts and some aluminum fork protectors bolts.

Ist not going to be a fast build by any means but ill keep updating as parts roll in.

Kinda funny. I just went through a 04 CR 125 myself while recovering from shoulder surgery. Working on it with one hand was a pain.

Being a one year bike, many items are NLA. The power valve cables were the hardest to find. I also ran into what I thought were jetting issues. After chasing brass, it was figured out that the power valve cables were improperly adjusted. It’s amazing how closely it mimics bad jetting. I think a lot of people who complain about the bike and, it’s jetting problems didn’t adjust the cables or, power valve correctly. Here’s the link I found and, it helped immensely.

Good luck with your build.

Working with one hand was definitely a pain.

Funny you mentioned it, I gave up looking for power valve cables. Mine cleaned up nice but the cable housing is kinked on both. Motion pro wants like $380 to make some new cables wile still using some of the old hardware. Must take some time.

I found a thread where someone said they used cr250 cables but couldn't remember what year. I did some digging and the servo on the 2002-2004 cr250 and the servo on the 2004 cr125 have the same parts numbers. The cables have different numbers. Figers crossed they are the same length. I have some on order. If anything if the cables are different lengths motion pro can just replace the cable with the right length ones.

Did you end up finding new ones and what pipe are you running?

I found a set of new cables on eBay after searching for quite some time.

Currently, it has a FMF Fatty on it. I go back and forth between a FMF Turbine core spark arrestor and, a PC 304 shorty. I know a raw Pro Circuit pipe would look better but, living in the PNW and, dealing with constant rain, they rust up pretty quick.

I just returned to work a couple weeks ago after five months off work myself. I’m not sure what the extent of you injury was but, shoulders take forever to heal. Good luck with your recovery.

Man you got lucky with the cables. I'm still hopefull I'll find a PC works pipe for it. I'm going to get the PC ti shorty. If I can't fing a PC works pipe I'll probably go with the hgs.

Waiting on some parts to come in this week from motostuff. Have to get some cables from core moto and the brakes are taken care of.

Cool thread. I seen you tried the PC jetting, if I'm not mistaken their jetting specs goes along with their motor work. I might be wrong.

Have a good one and enjoy that bike.

Those PC jetting specs, I later realized were for race fuel. Waaaay off.
I’ll keep a look out for raw pipes. Are you dead set on a PC? There’s other companies that make raw pipes that are pretty damn good as well. Messico and, Fresco come to mind. I found a Fresco for my cousins 95 RM 250. I know it’s not a 125 but, he did mention that the power delivery was better than the PC pipe he previously used. “Maybe”, that translates over to 125’s? Lucky Nino ( a CR 125 connoisseur) on here swears by Messico. Check out some of his posts as his insight is pretty enlightening.

Hi man

I'm pretty set on a PC works pipe, if I can't find one I'll definitely look into those other brands. I really like the look of the ti shorty so would like to find a matching pc works pipe.

I have had PC do 3 of my two strokes tuned for c12 gas and their jetting specs have worked awesome for these applications.

I also ordered some rc valve cables for a 2004 cr250 and they are identical in every way to the best I can tell. All my measurements match the 125 cables.

Thanks for all your input.

JM racing has a Great engine spec , he built the last natl championship cr125. A lot of Midwest 85,125 riders run  his porting . I bought 3 04,s  The  1st one was new in 06. Get the twin air power flow cage it’s cheap for this bike. Since you hv the 05 air boot. Low to mid & to the top is improved. It will run much cleaner. The 04 boot was only made in 04. It has a deader bottom but hits harder . The cr 125,s like a new coil. Ikat works like a Great ignition, not made anymore & hard to find. Budd racing can get an ignition from Europe. Rad valve with fmf & fmf reg silencer it runs it has a torque feel of a 134. Vforce doesn’t hurt it but you don’t feel a difference.  I had a pc on my 1st 04 it’s a good pipe but good luck finding a bare metal pipe. No one has them. The 1st hole on cylinder that the pv shaft goes through can get a metal bur on its own . Dremel a thickness of paper, it will b much smoother operation. Hrc method 4 pv adjustment. You can also adjust the cables for what kind of tension- delivery of power. Never ovr tighten it takes the servo motor out. I hv stock reed cage with a single carbon reed probably boyseen. I hv carbon tech MT reeds from biyseen didn’t try them yet. JM deck, port, diff carb taper- 38.5 -39 hp. But quicker stronger hit with a Much stronger & longer midrange then goes to ovr rev. Short shift as fast as u can or rev it out. Torque 19 lbs use c12.  Handling is the best of all the yrs. Small fram changes, beefier swingarm , diff shock, forks 1st yr of inner honing. No bike comes close to handling rough tracks like this one. It corners on its own. Jumps it will make you look good. Like they said confidence inspiring chassis. Brakes r on the weak side tho . Moto stuff has the same front disk geico used. I hv stock rear disk yet but probably get a gaffer. Stock Honda pads r the best. Service Honda has cheaper parts. My 1st 04 was decked , ported, etc. then I had a 2 mm stroker crank 1mm up& down. With 2  mm ovr bore. It would pull any mod 250f in 2011. But it was stolen that engine was built for Millville a big track.  The jetting is funky morning to late day you could do 3 jetting changes. I usually do 2 changes. There Really fun to ride the strong hit & the feel & handling oh soo good. I run ims pro series pegs far down & a little farther back. Yt - old video Ltm 04 cr125. Gives ya an idea what 1 runs like. Suspension is very good stock , I also added stiffer springs & added oil in forks. 1st bike revalve for whoops, it was perfect in the whoops. Another bike revalve for sand , Midwest tracks & whoops. A mechanic that shipped it said fast vet b. So it’s on the soft side   . Good luck on healing

Thx. That’s the 03 kx125 Budd Hgs pipe on it. I,m still not done bending & pounding dents in it to fit.  Budd Has the 03-04 pipe in stock rt now.  It’s bare metal, you can run a pc shorty silencer with it.  Check your slide they chip. Honda don’t make them anymore. Hv to run a slide for a yz125.  Cr is a 4.5 yz is a 4.25 i think. I,ll see if I can find the yz slide & box tomorrow.  Ya hv to fill the yz slide hole on top with jb weld. Other wise the roller hangs in the hole. You start the bike and it’s screaming. See the chip ?

The only hole shot device I found is a Tamer. I bought it 2 yrs ago I finally installed it. You might want to install it higher than mine. I couldn’t get it locked on my own. I hope I can with some help.  Seat cover Throttle jockey makes diff colors 40 bucks   You can add #,s or letters for 20 bucks. I hv 87 cr blue but the grip material is like orange peal, not that grippy.  I hv Tuf. On the seat cover kinds of a AX tribute.  When I hv time I,m going with a yellow cover with red letters of tuf. Or DGY.

Langston has the VHM head if you want one. You might want to see if the 05 air box fits the sub frame b4 you bolt it up. I used the stock box with the 05 boot. Ordered a new foam ring & used a lot of silicone. They had a leak there boot to box. A alum ring is made also. The yz slide has a hole in top that u hv to fill with jb weld. Pic is stock slide
