Congrats and enjoy that bad boy....
Can you tell me why the kickstand retracts up by it self? I almost dropped the bike on the floor. is it a KTM thing?
Never owned a KTM....but I would guess it's a safety feature so you don't ride off with the KS down. So when you tilt the bike up, the KS goes up by itself (spring loaded)? Lots of people have ridden away on street bikes and the results can be pretty ugly. My ADV bike has a sensor that won't let you put the bike in gear if it's down.
Yes, when you tip it up the kickstand goes up, which is fine if you tip it up from the kickstand side. I was not on the kickstand side, I tipped it up just to move it a few inches, then I went to sit it down on the kickstand, that’s when the fun began. It had retracted. 🤦♂️ it took all my strength to stop it from hitting the floor. I won’t be using the kickstand in the garage any more, I ordered a bike stand from Rocky Mountain motorcycle ATV. I will have to pay attention when I am out on the trail.
The Shop
Hell, I dumped my ADV bike in the garage the day after I brought it home. Was used to the low Harley....it started over and I quickly learned you're not going to stop 450 pounds once it starts going over.
I've dropped it plenty on trails so I got over the first few mishaps pretty quick.
I plan on laying it down on the trail, part of the fun. I don’t want a kickstand kicking my ass in the garage 4 hours after getting it home. 🤣
Bugger having to look for a tree / rut to put a bike against or in, and especially bugger lying a bike on it's side when you've got bloody kickstand!
If you can't remember that you've got a retracting kickstand, well...... But yes, it can be quite the surprise to 'discover' that feature. There's a reason why so many bikes in showrooms have Ockie straps going from the kickstand to the frame.
And, unless the US models have something different to ours here, you can easily disable the self retracting feature. And, as extra safety from a kickstand flapping down, if that worries you, you've got the rubber strap on the subframe. I finally, just recently, fitted a KTM strap to my CRE, as an extra precaution.
It's 38 years since you've had a bike? - you'll quickly get used to such small things, and, hopefully quickly get into the swing of most things again.
Welcome back to a World Of Fun!
I did not word that very well, my plan to lay it down on the trail will be the result of a crash or mishap. Which is fine, that happens, part of riding. Ha Ha. Dropping or laying it down on the floor in the garage would not be fun, especially because of a stupid safety thing with the kickstand going up automatically.
I will be using the rubber kickstand strap when I am trail riding, until I need to get off the bike for something and need the kickstand. I would never purposely lay the bike on the ground.
I am excited to get riding again!
I haven't had a squizz at 2025s, to see if they have the same set up as KTMs etc have had for Donkeys ages.
But if it's got that plate with an angle to it that the spring attaches to, that rests against the head of the pivot bolt, you can either get another , lower profile bolt, or hoick the cup / washer it fits in, among other methods to have that plate go across the pivot bolt, and Not butt up against it.
That is one SWEET new rig 1911! Enjoy your return to riding and congrats on hitting a home run first swing on getting a new bike! 🤪
The retractable kick-stand is a direct result of our “It’s not MY fault” I am a moron and left the kickstand down when I rode off and crashed my brains out…&/or the same reason there is a warning label on the Draino telling the F-ing IDIOTS among us they’re NOT Chicklets, don’t eat em!
Because we live in a “NOT my fault” society, our government mandates that ALL street legal motorcycles with have either A. self retracting side-stand / or / B. electronic switch on the side-stand that automatically disables the ignition IF the bike is placed into gear with the side-stand down!
It is left to the manufacturer which style side-stand they spec and the least difficult/likely least expensive to produce/provide to the buying public is the version that you are dealing with!
Years ago I splurged on the one & only new Ducati I have ever owned, (1999 model!) and they too came equipped with the gawd-awful self retracting side-stand (that you are now as big a fan of as I am, and that Satan his-own-self most likely engineered!?)
I somehow got used to the infernal idiot device and managed NOT to drop the bike…BUT one of my VERY experienced riding buddies sat on the bike in my garage, and promptly dropped it then & there when the stupid thing retracted! The only bright side was the bike landed on him and didn’t get a scratch!
Thankfully there are several hacks for over riding the idiot device although you’ll have to sue yourself if you disable it and have an accident! Ha
Anywhoo…Super cool bike and congrats again! Have fun on that bad boy and give us an update after you get a few fun rides on it! 😎 👍❗️
1999, I did not think this stupidity went back that far. lol going to hit some dirt Sunday, new helmet arrived today. Don’t tell the wife, she is still recovering from the motorcycle purchase.
WHEW!
Those are SWEET helmets too! Klim does NOT make anything that is cheap!
Good taste and the good STUFF never comes cheap! Ha! Enjoy! 😎 👍❗️
Oh man....I love my Krios Pro. I bought it because of how light it is. No helmet "fatigue" after riding all day.
Excellent choice.
Nice to hear that about the Krios Pro.
Went on a ride today, first real ride. Over yonder is area 51.
If you are like me, and you want to keep the bike Legal, to keep the local P's happy, you should look into getting mirrors like Double Takes.
I want them to actually work, so use the ones on stalks that go to a RAM joint so they easily flip down to the center of the triple clamp, then flip them up for full, Real, rearward vision, They do little ones that cable ty on (I use them on my bicycles) but the cops can't see them, so it gives them an excuse to pull you over. I just make little plates that go from the Brembo Master Cylinders horizontal top clamps, to take the RAM joints.
Thanks for the advice on mirrors, they are already on my list of things to get.
In the description of these mirrors it, appears they are for Brembo .

Great bike. Love my 2023.
The Double-Takes are one of the first mods I did to my Tiger.... No matter what I did, the stock mirrors kept coming loose and flopping around. Dumped em, installed the DTs and never looked back. Great product.
👍
You should have a different bolt in the binder that came with the bike that holds the kickstand on. Switch that out and then you don’t have to worry about the bike falling over each time you walk away…there is a YouTube video out there somewhere, that’s how I found it for my 500.
Thanks, I will look in my bag of stuff
