About Me
I started riding dirt bikes at age 32, in the woods and at recreational rides held on enduro terrain. I stopped riding to raise my family and sold my DR 125. Fast-forward 22 years: the youngest was now a dirt bike maniac and along with his father, I got back into the sport. By then, woods riding had been abandoned in favor of motocross riding. I had mixed feelings about it but it looked like a gas so I geared up for the track instead of the woods. I was not expecting the speed and snap of a supermini (Honda 150R) and it took me a good year to catch on to the little demon. I started by hollowing out the seat so I had better ground contact. Before the season was out, I was stuffing the padding back in, and eventually replaced it with an after-market tall seat. That is the one drawback to riding a smaller bike; the distance between the pegs and the top of the seat is short. It was good while I was trying to get he hang of it, but now wish I had a taller bike, like a CR 150 or an RMZ 125. I fit good on 250's but they are more bike than I need. I can't imagine not racing The Man Killer, it's been such a reliable bike. I did add a nine oz flywheel weight which reduced some of the snap, but it just swapped out the compression response that had slowed the bike when I let off the throttle.
When I rode in the woods, I would have never ridden mx, and now I cannot imagine riding anything else. I really love this sport !
I'd like to chat with other women riders/racers - especially if there are gals who once rode and have given up the sport, thinking they were too old. Give me a hollar if you want some support or just someone to compare notes with !
