It was the Johnson rod. I was there. I saw it happen. When it blew, it took out some poor sap standing by the berm. Apparently he's ok, but will be permanently scarred on the port side of his face with a scar that looks like a Johnson rod.

Bad picture quality but this is from the broadcast. Looks to me like the front half moon portion of the valve cover gasket is blown out. Extreme crankcase pressure can cause this. I've seen a nitrous motor go lean melting a hole in a piston which then blew out every gasket on the motor including the dipstick.

Cylinder head bolts are 37ft pounds. Cam caps are 89 in-lb. Direct from 2020 service manual.

Back in mid 90's I swapped out in a set of sand whoops. Cut open the bottom half of my knee cap. Peg squeezed between my upper boot and the bottom of my knee pad. Got two layers of stitches. Weird thing is , it cut some nerves and didn't really hurt. I rode for like another 1/2hr. Started getting tired and my left foot inside my boot felt like I was walking in a swamp. Nope.....my boot was full of blood. Kinda freaked when I first saw it. Was not fun getting all the sand scrubbed out of it...

5-31-21 I ripped my shin open to the bone from a foot peg. My sock was soaked in blood, a lot of blood in my boot. I was balancing on the bike & set talking to the 04. I can’t wait to ride ya baby,etc. I jump off to the left & bounced off a pile of stuff, pushing me towards the bike. The left peg ripped my rt leg open when my body came down. Don't go to the ER unless you want a big bill go to urgent care. My friend had something similar happened. Just keep it clean and a bandage on it. It will heal up with time.

Let me start off by saying I’ve been riding dirt bikes for 30 years and personally maintaining them to the highest of standards for 20 of those. Recently my YZ125 cylinder plating started to flake around the exhaust port so I decided to send it to Millennium for a replate. Not confirming, but I’d guess that there will be plates and screws involved. That was brutal and he took it like a champ ! I love the guy, such a great dude and a solid competitor. Bummed if this pushes him into retirement.
