Countdown to the USGP 1

If you went to Glen Helen and were looking for a whole bunch of new items a week ahead of the USGP, you might have been disappointed. While the MXGP regulars finish up their next-to-last round in Mexico this weekend, a few of the "irregulars" were taking advantage of the last day to ride on the circuit before things get ready this next week. We've also got some fairly raw video action from the day, which you can check out here: Last Minute Prep: Glen Helen - USGP.

Josh Grant is always fast at Glen Helen. It'll be interesting to see how he does at the GP.

As far as we know, Wil Hahn isn't schedule to race, as he's just gotten back on the bike. But it was good to see him in action.

Jessy Nelson was charging.

Jason Anderson will get his first race on the new Husky in at the USGP.

Marvin Musquin had just returned from France, after visiting his brother, Mikail, who'd recently suffered a spinal injury. Marvin said he's impressed at how strong his brother is, in the face of some tough circumstances. Marvin tried out two bikes, including the 350 that he's on here...

...and also a 450. He said the 350 and 450 are really very different powerplants (and powerbands), and requires a different style of riding.

Thomas Covington was the only one of the GP regulars we saw who'd made the trip up to get in some riding in So. Cal. ahead of next weekend's action. He'll head to Mexico on Friday. The mix of GP regulars, and riders from stateside should make for a very interesting race.

Davi Millsaps has been hitting it hard on tracks around So. Cal., getting ready for the USGP, and Monster Energy Cup.

What has Josh Hill been up to? He has a full-time gig with Monster Energy, and is pretty much done with racing. He was doing some work with the Pro Circuit guys, and helping them work on some suspension settings for the new KTMs.

Dean Wilson was having fun despite a particularly hot and muggy day.

The one substantial change that we saw was that the starting gate had been raised, and relocated about 40 feet forward from its traditional location to accommodate some of the MXGP infrastructure. From what we understand, the track will likely not be as extensive as in the past, where it combined both the National and REM sides of the track.

Shane McElrath throwing in some style.

Chris Alldredge making the drop in from the first uphill.
