This is my look back at Kawasaki's all-new KX125 for 1980. This was an important machine in that it kicked off the move toward single-shocked linkage rear suspension.

Here is the review in written and video format - Classic Steel - 1980 Kawasaki KX125

Thanks for posting, I remember that bike well. It was the second dirt bike I bought and raced.

I remember seeing these on the showroom floor back then . They were awesome looking machines in my opinion . I picked one up used in 84 and while it was slow I.wasn't a serious racer so I loved the bike . A.KDX 175 top end is a bolt on as is the 81 125 which was much improved in the power dept. It would be a cool bike to.restore .

I had a Kawasaki support ride though the local shop in 1980... That bike was a weird one for sure. Out of the crate, the motor sucked. We made it run, huge carb, lots of porting and high compression, but it was a bit of a toggle switch. It didn't turn all that well, but it was really fast through the rough stuff. The Unitrak soaked up EVERYTHING. The forks struggled a little to keep up.

It had style for miles...
