I had a 98 CR250 and that motor screamed.....it had a lot of top-end. I liked it a lot....but I never had a 93, so I can't compare them. So yeah.....basically I just wasted everyone's time. Carry on........

I had been racing a 1996 CR250 and when my buddies got '97 models - I rode the new bike a couple times and said nahhhhhhh...

The 98 was similar to 97 and had tons of scream but no torque. The 92-96 CR250's had some of the best engines around and were relatively easy to use. They barked. The new engine whined.

Let's not even talk about the shitty suspension, frame, and feel of the newer bike....

A 93 with 02 and up forks is the ticket. Had a 96, loved that bike. Was like it could do no wrong. Great roll on and midrange, adequate top end. The 93 was supposed to turn better, which is nice as the 96 I had was one of the best handling 250 I ever rode. Felt like a 125 almost so light and low. The seat height is also very low, probably the best full size bike for shorter guys I ever rode. I'm 511, but never minded swinging my leg over that nice low seat. Just make sure the motor mount bolts are tight or it'll shake ur fillings out lol

I raced 92, 94, and 96 models. I spent all my mod money on suspension and a pipe for my 1996 and that thing was sweet. I was a tall guy at 6'3" so I needed bars and a seat but that was easy to fix.

Torco1, same exact scenario for me. Had a 98 but always heard how good the 92-96 motors were and was curious what everyone else thought..

I had an 88 CR250, that was the last Honda 2T I've had. But I did have a 93 Yz and a 98 YZF, I liked them both better than the Hondas I didn't have. So don't feel you have the worst post here anymore, there's always some dumbass that will come along and top...ur bottom you.

Take a 92-01 motor and put in 02-07 frame and you got one bad ass bike.

I had a 93, 97 and still have a 99 model. The 93 model had a lot more low and mid range power than the 97. That 97 seemed like all top end compared to the 93. The 99 feels sort of in the middle of the 93 and 97. I think the 98 was just like the 97 with lots of top end power.

McGrath rode a 93 model during the 93, 94, 95, and 96 racing season just with the updated graphics for each year.

You need the 96+ motor with the newer cdi and 2005+ forks with the axle pulled in 5mm. Ultimate red two stroke.

Hey James, you are welcome to spin some laps on my '95 if you would like. It runs well. Has 08 CRF forks and a reworked shock. Feels like a modern bike.

I had a 98 that I built with a wiseco prolite piston, mild port job with a V-force reed block and an FMF SST pipe. Milled .30 off the head with a nice resquish, It was almost to much reminded me of my 89 cr500 power wise with tons of over rev.

I sent my 98 cr to PC and got the works and it was a beast. It really didn't need it but I had always wanted a real race motor. I just wish it was on any other year bike than that 98 chassis. I think it was JT and Keefer and some other test riders that were telling Honda that the bike was so bad they didn't think they should release it to the public but it was too late. Then it wins most of the worst bike of all time poles. I barely survived it but it was a monster of a motor.
