I've been trying to figure this out cause it doesn't have spark. Think it needs a new stator but I have no idea what brand or model it is!

Anyone know or have tips?

Thanks!!

hahaha I figured someone on here might know! I've seriously stripped the thing down to nothing at all and no where on it anywhere does it say what brand, model or year it is.

A friend of mine bought one of those ,don't know the brand either, Chinese scooters to. He had one thing go wrong , that wasn't that major, and had to just junk it. He tried , even knowing the company that made it, to get parts and had no luck at all. He bought it from a NW sporting store called GI joes during their going out of business sale so , for obvious reasons, couldn't get any support from them either. Also have a buddy that bought one of those go kart , 4 wheel sand buggy looking things, from a web site that sold Chinese products and he's having the same issue. He ended up fabricating parts for it when he could. Sure you get a great deal on the front end but god forbid you need a part for one.

there should be a vin# plate with manufacture date and name on it, alot of those had the plate located under the floor boards, they cant be registered without a vin# plate in the USA so if it ever had a lis plate it with have a plate somewhere

Put a volt meter on OHms and put one lead on one of the three wires comming out of the stator and then the other lead to the case of the motor if you get any reading other than OFL the stator is bad you have a short to ground. to match one up need to mic the crank shaft OD and key way if one is installed.

I got the VIN number and am waiting on my cop buddy to call back. Hopefully I can figure this out cause I used one of those internet VIN search look ups and it didn't come up.

If it doesn't check out, no grounded or open windings, maybe try taking it to an auto
alternator/starter repair shop.

That's a problem created by Chinese that I don't know how they'll fix.

The Chinese Government doesn't want any one group, individual or company to get too big.

They don't want to cowtail to a Honda, or have to answer to a company like GE.

So, they keep the factories making different stuff, nothing of which they designed,
on an as need basis. A factory might be making brake hubs one week, washing machine impellers the next. Nobody but the Chinese Government get's the credit
for what they make.

Nobody get's too big.

If there was still a Cycle News, there was a guy rewinding stators in the back ads....

I did that and didn't get any reading. All I have is this piece of crap meter and it's been so long since I did anything with electrical stuff on bikes, that I can't remember what to do!

the vin# will be stamped on the frame but to register a new unit it must have the vin# stamped on the frame and a separate vin# plate that will have the date and maker on it, it is harder to find than the vin# stamped into the frame and sometimes is hidden under the body or floor boards, the plate will also have the country it was made in listed on it. hope this helps

it's not going to help to find who made it you still can't get parts...

take it down to the local Harley dealer and stand in the parking lot with a sledge hammer and charge $ 5 per hit to get your money out of it.

I think it is a "Gay Maker 2000" Being Chinese I think something got lost in translation.

Just curious, how do you end up with a bike that you don't even know what brand it is? I guess we just don't see to many Chinese bikes around here but it puzzles me.

My buddy gave it to me cause it wouldn't run. He didn't know what it is either. Only has 513 miles on it. The kids are dying to ride it around the yard!

That piece of crap meter is all you need.

Turn it to ohms.

Touch the 2 lead tips, the meter should go all the way across the scale.

If it doesn't, bad meter.

If it does, check from wire tips to plate backing, should be nothing.

If there is, it's a dead short. to ground.

Needs rewinding.

If you get nothing between the wires, open windings, or a break in the wire.

Needs rewinding.

If you get a reading at the wires, say half way across, it might be something else.

Check the coil the same way, then look for a short to ground in the harness to frame.

Get off the "who made it" thing and get back to the basics.

Yup my meter is junk! Just did what you said and nothing. I'm going to get a new one tonight.

One guy on thumpertalk said 90% of the time when these little chinese scooters loose spark its the CDI.

I can't remember how to test that either! lol

Might just be the battery in the meter is dead.
Forget to turn it off and poof, dead overnight.
And you need battery to check ohms.

If it's the box, yer screwed.
