Just figured I needed to give credit where credit is due.

Yesterday I was up at cahuilla creek mx with my wife and daughter for Father's Day. After a few motos I came back and my wife mentioned that she had seen Brian Deegan and his son pull into the track. Not one to get star struck I didn't really pay much attention to it but I noticed she kept looking over at his pit. After about 20 minutes of her looking over she finally said how cool it would be for her to get a picture of our 6 month old with him.

Now I have never been much for asking for autographs or pictures with anyone famous, it's not that I'm too cool for it, I just hate bothering people who are just trying to be normal in a normal setting.

Anyways after her pestering me for a few I thought " alright, happy wife, happy life." and we walked over to his pit.

Brian was very approachable after I started a conversation out of thin air, and after about 30 seconds I told him " dude I hate to do it but would you mind taking a photo with my wife and daughter?" It would have been very easy for him to tell me " dude I'm with my kid and just got done with a 20 + 2, come on". Honestly if he would have I would not have blamed him. Instead he grabbed a water bottle, poured it over his face, and walked over to my wife and daughter and smiled for the camera.

It's something that he most likely forgot about the second after it happened, but it made my wife's day and will be cool for my daughter in the future.

I'm sure there are a 1000 stories like this, but I just wanted to give a thank you to Brian for being very cool with myself and my family and taking time out of his day for a couple of strangers. You are a good man.

(FYI dude still RIPS on a bike)

I grew up racing with him.........he's a normal dude and a nice guy in my eyes, don't confuse a businesman that needs to act a certain way to make money with the way he actually is. Truth be told, he's set up an awesome money chugging machine and I bet that anyone that was in his shoes would act the same way if that was what it took to be successful. Making a whole lot of money in this world requires massive hard work and stress, along with a lot of luck. He's found a great niche that works for him and seems to make him lots of money. I know him and his father, and he was instilled with good values in my opinion. I would bet that almost anyone could approach him if the timing was right and not be disapointed. He's a good guy and fast as shit on a dirt cycle.

Yeah back in '97 he gave my buddy a signed rear sprocket that his team was tossing after practice and took a pic with him. He said Brain was super cool and down to earth. He also said he stopped by Reynards pit and asked if he could get a autograph or pic and Robbie told him he doesn't have time for that. Which is weird because I have met Robbie and was cool as shit to me.

Must have been a bad day for Robbie. We were at Glen Helen one day, probably 10 yrs ago. Unloaded the bikes and gear and realized our sons roost protecter was left at home. Robbie was parked next to us with his dad......post factory days and now dad and son privateer struggling days.......and he heard what happened, handed our son a chest protector of his own and told him to take it and be safe.

I am glad you got a great pic of your beautiful family with Deegan. I am sure his tough guy Mulisha act is just that, an act. He is most likely a very nice person, as your experience showed

As I understand it, he's distancing himself from promoting the Metal Mulisha. No logos on him, his truck, etc.

I thought his jersey in the OP was void of MM logos...

Why is he getting away from that?

I'm guessing that companies such as Ford, Makita, etc. don't want to be affiliated with it.

He was an alternate at X Games and he didn't have any MM stickers on his bike.

I'm not sure about that. He was part of the Ford Octane Academy and had Ford as a sponsor for his whole truck racing career. The big "corporate" sponsors need the demographic that MM represents. Unless something happened that we don't know about?

And you still pick "inthebadboycorner" for your screen name.. good one!

I'd say he lost interest in MM when his kid started getting serious about racing. Saw on a vid somewhere where he said his kid was getting a bad rep just because of his own past

I never really cared for Deegan because of the whole Mulisha schtick, but after seeing him on Supercross: Behind the Dream, my attitude towards him definitely changed for the better. Glad to hear he's actually like that in person, too, and wasn't just putting it on for the camera.

My son and I had a great experience meeting him at the Reno truck race. He was very friendly to my son and from what I saw treated all the fans graciously.

You change when you become a dad. Things that were not important are now important and things that were important are no longer important. Especially when it comes to teaching your kids to respect others and be polite. He seems to be doing that. Good to see.

You are correct. He signed that deal to keep MM from falling into bankruptcy. He has nothing to do with the day to day operations anymore.

he is a pretty cool dude though. Back in 2007 or so he had a small shop in Perris that his sister was the manager. It had some of his art work and bike stuff. One day we stopped in and he happened to be there. He came out of the back and started a conversation with my 7 yo. he was asking him if he raced and how he liked riding mx. Then he asked my son who his favorite rider was and my son says "Travis Pastrana" Brian didn't miss a beat, he just smiled and said "he's my favorite too" He gave my son an autographed hat that he'd worn at the track. it was all sweat stained and dirty and he had doodled some cool art work on it.

I got to see him ride way back in the day at a local track in Agency, MO, I think it was 1995. He was on Honda's and was with his Dad pitting out of a box van. He was with another fast pro, for some reason I think it was Denny Stephenson, but I am probably wrong on the other rider.

It was the first time we had really seen a pro's speed and were blown away. I remember him being really nice and still have his autograph somewhere from that day.
