Just figured I needed to give credit where credit is due.
Yesterday I was up at cahuilla creek mx with my wife and daughter for Father's Day. After a few motos I came back and my wife mentioned that she had seen Brian Deegan and his son pull into the track. Not one to get star struck I didn't really pay much attention to it but I noticed she kept looking over at his pit. After about 20 minutes of her looking over she finally said how cool it would be for her to get a picture of our 6 month old with him.
Now I have never been much for asking for autographs or pictures with anyone famous, it's not that I'm too cool for it, I just hate bothering people who are just trying to be normal in a normal setting.
Anyways after her pestering me for a few I thought " alright, happy wife, happy life." and we walked over to his pit.
Brian was very approachable after I started a conversation out of thin air, and after about 30 seconds I told him " dude I hate to do it but would you mind taking a photo with my wife and daughter?" It would have been very easy for him to tell me " dude I'm with my kid and just got done with a 20 + 2, come on". Honestly if he would have I would not have blamed him. Instead he grabbed a water bottle, poured it over his face, and walked over to my wife and daughter and smiled for the camera.
It's something that he most likely forgot about the second after it happened, but it made my wife's day and will be cool for my daughter in the future.
I'm sure there are a 1000 stories like this, but I just wanted to give a thank you to Brian for being very cool with myself and my family and taking time out of his day for a couple of strangers. You are a good man.
(FYI dude still RIPS on a bike)

I am glad you got a great pic of your beautiful family with Deegan. I am sure his tough guy Mulisha act is just that, an act. He is most likely a very nice person, as your experience showed
Why is he getting away from that?
To this day still turns me off Nick Wey. Great rider and all, no doubt a top bloke but................

You change when you become a dad. Things that were not important are now important and things that were important are no longer important. Especially when it comes to teaching your kids to respect others and be polite. He seems to be doing that. Good to see.

he is a pretty cool dude though. Back in 2007 or so he had a small shop in Perris that his sister was the manager. It had some of his art work and bike stuff. One day we stopped in and he happened to be there. He came out of the back and started a conversation with my 7 yo. he was asking him if he raced and how he liked riding mx. Then he asked my son who his favorite rider was and my son says "Travis Pastrana" Brian didn't miss a beat, he just smiled and said "he's my favorite too" He gave my son an autographed hat that he'd worn at the track. it was all sweat stained and dirty and he had doodled some cool art work on it.
It was the first time we had really seen a pro's speed and were blown away. I remember him being really nice and still have his autograph somewhere from that day.
Post a reply to: Big props to Deegan
