Currently towing my bikes with a 4Runner on a 3-rail bike trailer I made myself. It will be a long time before I sale the T4R, however I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a seperate car for my job since I drive 150-200 miles per day. Have been doing a lot research looking for a cheap car, with great gas mileage, that's fun to drive w/ a manual trans and has lots of storage room for my instrument trays and equipment.

After taking all that into consideration I was able to narrow it down to a Honda Fit. Yeah, yeah it's not the most manly of cars but it does meets all my criteria and of course it's a Honda so it has to be good. The new model is coming out in September and my buddy that's an executive w/ Honda has me at the top of the list covering all their Honda dealerships.

Sorry for the rambling, but has anyone towed a bike or bikes behind a Fit or other small car? I'm planning to build another smaller/lighter single rail trailer if it's possible.

Future fuel-sipper:

Shaggin Wagon or do I need to go ahead an get a rainbow sticker for the bumper?

Plenty of folks on Thumpertalk (I know, I know) have pics of tiny cars towing a bike or two with a small bolt-on hitch. I was told my Toyota Echo can do it, I just have to go get the hitch put on. Unless you're scaling mountains, it's doable. My friend's little sister tows her YZ250 to the track in a Tercel that's older than she is.

And these days, anyone who'd judge you for driving a car that's only as big as you really need is probably a moron with a small penis who drives a H2 to compensate.

U-haul can put a hitch on about anything, Any little car will tow that no problem, Sell that 4Runner and save on insurance if your looking into saving money, Or sell the 4Runner and get a slightly bigger car .

As for coming out, If you do that here your going to get hit on by about %50 of the members.

Thanks for the good tip, I'll check out TT.

Mostly it was just me having to get over judging myself, however I am a moron and do have a very small penis so I guess that should be expected.

I use to pull a 14 ft. fishing boat with my Dodge Stratus. I had a hitch from an rv shop put on. They hooked the lights up and all

Check out my last post... since most of that 50% are all size-queens they probably wouldn't be interested so I'm probably safe.

Not really wanting to sell the T4R right now, it is going to the old lady.

Thanks for the tips though!

Sweet ride! My 4R has the 4.7 is only getting around 16-17!

When i was around 19 or so i pulled a quad on a boat trailer with a old beat down mustang 2 ( that usually ran on 3 cylinders, leaked a qt of oil every day and didnt have reverse) all over the state. Almost anything will pull, its just a matter of how big of a hurry you are in.

well actually i know a guy who goes trail riding about every week about 90miles from where he lives and uses an 07 honda civic to transport his bikes...He can carry 2 full sized bikes...The only thing you should be concerned about is if the fit has a hitch to connect your trailer to?? By the looks of that thing, it doesnt...

Used to pull an 18 foot bass boat with a 150 hp motor behind my Chevy Beretta. It went fine, stopping was a little hairy but not like stopping after a big triple in the mud.

The looks I got were pretty funny. I was young, poor and having fun. I didn't even care.

Another trailer tip, Tandem axle trailers tow much smoother with way less jerking, A tandem trailer that weighs 2-3 times more is much more pleasant experience.

What do you think they use in Europe?
5/17/2008 7:04pm
Actually it is being manly cuz it shows your pride for the sport...The fact that you would use whats most convienient to go out and ride rather than haul a big rig for just one bike is a great thing...Plus all that extra money being saved can get you some pretty tricked gear and mods...Cool

Good deal, I may try building the trailer out of mostly aluminum with some little 14" or so wheels so tandem axles may work.

Just found a Hidden Hitch that is made for the 08 Fit, hopefully it will work on the redesigned 09 model or they come out with a new one. It doesn't require any drilling or bumper cutting.

Capacity Specs:
Tongue Weight - 200 lbs.
Gross Trailer Weight - 2000 lbs.

Looks like the hitch mounted carrier in my garage is probably out of the question?

I don't need any tricked gear or mods since I'm not a poser and am already using Engine Ice. That's enough for me, I just wanna ride and Champions Ride Red.

My wife has a Fit, it could easily tow a bike on a rail trailer.

I got this one.. Ha..
I once pulled A small U-haul enclosed trailer. I believe it was something like 4' X 6' . Anyway the trailer was bigger than my little Toyota Tercel I pulled it with.

I stuffed a bike in it and hauled it from Gainesville to Atlanta.
It did not like it much but it made it fine. And I still got almost 30 MPG on that trip.
I would say that with an open trailer you will have no problems.

If you go tandem you can go way smaller than 14". I have a 14" tandem axle trailer, it carries a Maristar 240sc ski boat. Weighs about as much as 8 dirt bikes. You ever see those little wheels on aluminum sled trailers that carry two fat assed machines?

I went riding with my friend his brother and his dad. We had a 450, 250, 250f, and an 85. behind a Toyota Camry with well over 100,000 miles. The main thing to worry about is stopping time, we couldn't stop at all.

There's always a plus side to every situation. So look on the bright side. It might be easier to find a partner who will do filters. Actually, maybe it will be harder..............er I mean more difficult.

On the towing part, I built a single bike trailer with a gullwing axel(only way I can think to describe it) the axle in the middle sits about 4" off the ground. There's no platform, just the tray? where the bike sits. So the bike sits at least a foot lower than most trailers, it makes a huge difference in pulling it.
