RonRon wasn't scared of anybody! If not for some injuries and bad luck he might have had a national title and a longer career...Dude ripped and a really unique riding style too!

Thats a really memorable race. What's memorable is the fact that all sx season James laid the wood to the rest of field. When he came up on a rider to pass, he passed and then that was it, the other guys just couldnt hang. But Stephane at Las Vegas showed balls and speed. He battled and had no fear. It was awesome.

But, he was hooked on pain meds at this point right? This race and the first National at Hangtown he was at just the right point with the meds that he was extremely RELAXED and thats what helped him ride fast and smooth with such ease. I think the wheels fell off shortly thereafter.

At least thats what I remember.

Yeah remember that and then the next race, the first national of the year he came out and passed james. Can't remember if he got hurt after that, but was thinking maybe we would see some racing in the outdoors but that didn't happen.

Think he had been dealing with the beginning of his worsening back issues and also arm pump. The back led to some pretty dark days for RonRon, pretty sure RX did a story on it.

From what I remember the pain from injuries led him to get addicted to the pain meds. His 2004 season began to spiral down after Hangtown till he wasnt even at the last few races. I think he took the 2005 season off to heal and get off the meds, tried coming back in 2006 but wasnt anywhere near where he was before and retired.

Maybe others can help me with the timeline and details. I dont mean to malign Stephane by bringing up the addiction to pain meds, but rather my impression of him is positive. A guy who had a good career, had some problems and then was able to OVERCOME his problems and leads a very respectable life.

I think he used to post here years ago didnt he?

It was Vicodin or Generic Hydrocodone with APAP. They are Opiate based Medications which are all in the same Family as Heroin, Oxy, Morphine & ETC. They all have the same effects.

He was also on them during Vegas and Hangtown I remeber reading the Article he had in MXA or RacerX

Hangtown. The other guy well in the mix that day was Hepler.

This sport is brutal to the riders who can go that fast; shame we lost so much talent prematurely.

lol. Paracetamol is tylenol. That's all. Vicodin has apap (tylenol or paracetamol in it). So it's hydrocodone/apap.
