Scouring the old GoPro forum posts i couldn't find out what's the best way to edit out wind noise and the best (and hopefully not most expensive) software to use? Any tips for a noob will be greatly appreciated.
I know for basic cutting and importing you can use MPEG Streamclip. All you have to do is set your "in" and "out" points (that'll cut the video). I believe they also have a few audio controls, but I'm not sure if they have a preset that will get rid of that wind noise. For most editing I use adobe premiere. It's got way more features than we would ever need, but it gets the job done. You might want to investigate Adobe Premiere Elements or of course iMovie if you have a mac.
The older Hero cameras had a 2-way squelch selector. It would basically be a quiet or loud mode, and the loud mode was all wind noise. The quiet mode was only mostly wind noise!
Newer ones have an audio compressor built in; they pick up more volume when it's quiet and pick up less when it's loud. I think all the HD models operate like this.
