haha Scottie, can't imagine living with Nealer. We tried to persuade him to holeshot (or almost) another shougie and just about had him talked into trying it again, with a Budweiser sponser of course. He was fun to ride/party with.
For sure Bill! We became brothers when we were just 1 year old, they lived next door to us, his and my mom were so classic, and we were little freakin terrorizers! lol

Chk out us here on Halloween Laughing

But some of the best times were later in in life (early 90's) his g/f and mine were also best friends and the 4 of us lived together in my house. Talk about "good times!" You know what the 90's were like Woohoo He had gotten back from his time racing in Argentina after breaking his neck and they moved in w/ me and thats how i met my g/f and then she also moved in. Man...those were the days!

Thats the "little hill".Silly
Yeah they routed around the "big hill" .. The promoter stated they wanted a safe track... Except one guy on a very low speed tip over broke his neck and got a helicopter flight to Stanford ..

Travis...That hill was brutal! I thought to myself there is no way they will run this during the race and sure enough they didnt. But it was cool to ride it and see what those GP riders had to deal with.

I know what you mean man, I loved riding that place and havent been there in years. Might need to go hit a practice day one of these weekends when they have a race.

Hey Moe, Does your recovery tour include Glen Helen next weekend? I hope so!
You and I have battled a little at the Vet Nationals there a few times.
Hope to see you out there!

I was hoping to go to the worlds vet but alas, no mun, no fun unless something comes up, I would love to be at Glen Helen again. 408MX in San Jose is the best moto track around, fast and big jumps, I wasn't man enough to jump all the jumps dammit, a little block still but working on it! check the video link for a look at the track.

Hey Jim, glad to hear you say that about 408mx - I dont think Ralph gets enough credit for the quality and work he puts into that place on a daily basis. There is not a better consistently groomed and prepped MX track in Nor Cal - or maybe even SoCal. He really puts everything he has into the place and is always working on understanding how to build a better and safer, yet challenging track. He does a great job with the place.

And yes, that Hollister GP track is awesome as well, when it has been prepped and watered properly. I have been there maybe ten times since moving to CA in 2006. A few times it was really, really good, and alot of fun. But a few times it was a mess - dusty, silty and somewhat dangerous with almost no flaggers - and not much fun. It really just depends who the promoter is and how much resources they have available to them for working in the track.

I dont think it was mentioned in this thread, but it is my understanding that pretty much any organization or group can rent it from the state OHV park on a daily basis. But prep (as well as insurance, ambulance, water and all the other stuff that goes along with running a track) all fall on the renter, and for the time period that they have the track.

But like at Hangtown, it is actually separate from the OHV Park and therefore not open on a daily basis. In Hollister, the track entrance is slightly down the road, maybe 1/4 mile or so from the normal weekend warrior OHV park. It is worth noting that the OHV Park also has several other motorcross tracks within its confines, and sometimes people get those confused with this track, and because the "GP track" is only open when an organization rents it.

But yes, track is still alive and well, and is still alot of fun to ride, and has great soil.

I blew out my ACL there in 1984 on my shiny new CR250, but boy does this bring back good memories. My first ride on my 1976 YZ80 was at Hollister. Everybody couldn't wait for the Hollister Races. By 1978 it was a regular stop with guys like Ricky Ryan (First and only Privateer to win a Supercross Race), Kurt Iselin, Mike Holmes, Sean Hantz, Franky Szazy, Ruben ??? all really fast on their 80's. Mike Holmes and Ricky Ryan used to go at it and were the two fastest guys out there but rode under the Jensen's Cycle Tent together I think. Hard to believe this was 34 years ago. Seems like yesterday and I would go back in second. Good times for sure.

Hollister is still a great track.. One of the biggest problems about having big events is the traffic and the noise problems.

Yes I ride still. I crashed hard at Dodge national and been waiting to heal up. Concussion, sprained ankle and broken finger.
