According to the report there will be some MAJOR renovations.
I wonder what that will do for SX, and if that changes the "Monster Alley" and even scheduling
could be affected.

Looks cool though, im sure if it happens it will be a rad place to end the series, and Tomac to take his 2nd SX title Wink

Sounds like a whole new stadium, maybe not a remodel of Sam Boyd.

Went to a football game at Sam Boyd this past season and the best part about it was that if you went to the beer concessions on the home team side, there was no waiting in line.....

After attending the SX finally there I was highly dissapointed with the hole venue. I left scratching my head as to why people would really pay to go this race, luckily I won the trip through Monster Energy. Our local high school football stadium put that place to shame. The rendering looks pretty sweet with the 80 yard TV, looks like Jerry land in Dallas is going to no longer have the largest TV any more. I have always wondered why they don't move the final round of SX to different locations kind of like the super bowl?

Way I understand it, the Las Vegas Chamber or Division of Tourism (or both) sponsor the SX series and a part of that sponsorship is having the Finale in Las Vegas. Same thing for PBR.
I think teams like it because it's not far from California plus it's an easy place to host sponsors, have the SX banquet and essentially cut loose for a weekend before regrouping for the start of the Nationals

I love Sam Boyd, I would be bummed to see the race contained inside a modern stadium.

At halftime during UW/UNLV game this year the UNLV athletics director said he wants a 60,400 seat dome for 2015. The radio guys cut him off before he finished talking. Hope it happens, Sam Boyd feels like a skillet to watch practice.

I like the set up of sam boyd, mainly because of the flexibility offered by the open alley ways out of the stadium. What I would like to see at vegas instead of the big flat track turn out there is a long, curving section of sand rollers, however you couldnt do that with the stadium fully enclosed.

Sam Boyd is a shoebox and sucks during the day during practice as you sit in the blistering sun getting baked like an egg on the sidewalk.
Not to mention, it's shit for the photographers because it's so small the entire place is red-zoned except for usually one strip up the middle

My buddy won tickets to Vegas last year in an RC series and gave them to me and my gf. We left at 1:30pm, got there at 4:30pm, went inside the stadium at 6:00pm, left after the fireworks show around 11:30pm, started driving, stopped at 3:30am to sleep on side of road off of Stoddard until 6am, got home at 7:30am and slept more.

Sam Boyd is a very small stadium but it makes for tight racing and makes the fans feel more special. Last year was boring because everyone was out buy Dungey and he stole the race. The lites class having their mains first was kind of strange and we didn't even know what was going on. Not being able to see the back of the track stinks too.

That yahoo page is gone. Are they renovating the stadium or building a brand new stadium somewhere else? They won't have the parking space for that huge stadium in the picture that was posted.

At least parking is free, that's always nice. But leaving that place sucks!

I'm pretty sure they poured a drag strip in the parking lot, too. We had to walk across it to get to the stadium from the parking lot.

For the common fan, one day in the sun to see the best racers in the world then a night out on the town is a hell of a good time. Those looking for special "industry" seating/spots around the track might be disappointed.

Wait until all the improvements are in, then the powers that be in football, will make the Supercross disappear.

The stadium will not be built until 2017. I didn't read the articles, but I doubt they are building it over SBS.

I usually lurk here but I signed up because I couldn't stand reading this thread and you guys not know what's going on.

-It's a brand new stadium, it won't be built on top of SBS.
-Being built on the UNLV campus in between Paradise and Swenson right next to Trop across from Thomas and Mack.
-It will be dug into the ground pretty deep to accommodate the airport height restriction.
-Not sure what they will be doing with SBS after this is completed.
-It's not a regular stadium, it's a giant theater. Think of it a C shape built up around the sides, with a section going across the back shown in the picture above in thread.
-You could walk from the Hard Rock literally in a few minutes to get to the stadium when complete. (For you Hard Rock stayers).
-Supercross and Monster Jam will move to the new stadium along with everything else.

Any other questions just fire away.

They can't sell this as a "football stadium upgrade" to the city. UNLV football is awful, anything built solely for them would not pass step 1.

Anytime a casino would try to build an arena the others would vote it down.

Here UNLV is building a multipurpose facility that caters to all types of events knowing the casino and covention center would pass because of UNLV's neutral stance. Also casinos would look like dbags voting down something that would benefit the economy in poor Vegas right now and for the local college. Thus the facility is being built in a theater shape that would work with concerts, fights etc etc.

Its pretty innovative. More than enough room for SX. And it will happen.

A new stadium would be awesome if for no other reason than parking. The lot around Sam Boyd is a joke! I got cut off by one guy on the way out of there and the chain reaction absolutely screwed me! I watched that f@*ker drive right out in less than 15 minutes, but I got stuck for 3 hours. I'm not even exaggerating... it was 3 hours and 5 minutes to get to the paved road leading to Boulder Highway.

Sports = $$$

If it needs to be bigger, it will, just give it time. I predict soon we will have stadiums that make our current ones look like practice facilities in comparison.

The one downtown would of been great except for the parking. They ended up building the smiths center for performing arts and the medical centers in the spot the arena was supposed to be built.

As for the mega complex the guy trying to get it done Chris Milam? Is a fraud who was using non suffecient japensese money to fund it.

Big screens like that suck. They take away from the action on the field. Ive been in Jerry World in Dallas i dont know how many times and you never watch the floor you spend the whole time staring at the screen. Its not just something I do either every person in the building is staring up at the thing.
