We headed up to Woddruff S.C, last Sunday for the 6th round of the SETRA HS series.
We had lots of rain in the past week but it cleared up Thursday so the track was not as bad as it could have been. They still had to cut about 5 miles of the course and take out the river crossing.
Jr. had a little trouble with the start and had a great view of the ass end of the C class row.
There was a $30.00 prize to the top overall C class finisher and young Kody Fennell jumped out front early and led the whole way to win it. Remember this kids name, he will be a top GNCC contender in a couple of years.
Jr wasted no time in cutting through the pack in the early stages of lap 1
Luke Intile pulled the holeshot in the A class with his 200 and ran strong all day for 1st in 200 A and 7th overall.
About halfway through the first lap the riders had their first creek crossing which got really tough in the later laps.
Big Cliff Ousley Holeshot the pro class and led the first lap. His 250 KTM XC always sounds sweet.
Mike Grizzel won the 35 A class on his Husberg and finished 6th overall
Houston Taylor and my kid have battled all season long and he got off to a great start today.
Coming into the scoring area at the end of the second lap and Jr. is putting the pressure on 2nd. place.
The upper portion of the track was laid out in a huge pasture that was really tacky and built up some nice berms. Lots of passing took place here and was where most everyone pitted.
Cory Macdonald took over the pro class lead on the second lap and never looked back.
He ran 7 eight mile laps and his lap times did not vary by more than 10 seconds which is amazing to me. He will be riding for Yamaha in the GNCC XC 2 class next year.
Jr had a little trouble on the 4 th lap with a stump which tossed him into the woods and tangled up in some vines. By the time he got back running he had lost second place and was a minute and a half down. On the last lap (the 6th) he put his head down and charged back up to second and passed all of the 250 and open C riders in the process.
So he was 2nd in 200C, 2nd overall C rider which extended his points lead to 16 in the series and finished 51st overall out of 160.
Its a big deal to win a "Jug" in the SETRA series and some of the older guys really made Jr. feel good about winning his today. SETRA is a great organization which has been putting on off road races in the SE for over 40 years producing many National champs.
