Thanks Uncle Tony. Yes, I remember that race in Namur, 1982. I placed top 10 in the first moto but broke a rear wheel in the 2nd moto. It broke on the far side of the track with only a lap or two left. Most of the spokes were gone while I limped the bike back to the pits very slowly along the easiest route through the massive crowd. I think that was the next to last race before the final round in Luxembourg. It was nice to have some American fans there.

The European fans sure did't want an American to win or get in the way of Belgium's Andre Vromans. My Honda Teammate (England's Graham Noyce) broke his arm from a fan hitting him with a big stick. Another fan threw a big chair in front of me on a fast straightaway. I was lucky to not crash by wheelieing over it.

This is a photo from that race.

I remember being at St. Pete that day. Thanks for sharing the great story.

Had a friend who Super 8 mm filmed a lot of the Nationals, Winter Ams from St. Pete. Wish I knew where he was, and what happened to that footage. Used to watch the little reels over and over of you four, among all the other greats and locals here in Florida.

Thanks for the neat story, it's always a pleasure reading you Gary, writing seems to be another one of your talents. Would love to hear about your aforementioned switch to Honda in the early eighties as well as your experiences with Can-Am as I'm from Canada and know the older Bombardier products well. Always keeping an eye on your contributions here, and thanks for the great riding vids, made a huge difference in my riding.
