...and you have to shoot Canyon before 8:49 am, otherwise the sun will melt your camera. Laughing

I like that track.

So, I looked Canyon MX up on Google Maps. Looks like a great facility with lots of room. Would it be a good place to host a pro national? Based on the pics above, they would need to pick the rocks out (like Broome Tioga) but it seems to have killer soil, lots of room, and good location close to Phoenix. Also from the pics above, it seems to have natural elevation changes we all like.

Looks like there are 2 large MX tracks? One is lighted and may be flatter.
They held a 125 & 250 National there in 1979, here is the CN write up.

Raced there in mid 80's maybe earlier but I do remember canyon was my very first gate drop using individual backwards falling gates. The most strangest gates,at the time, to try and out guess. Deer Valley was another track in that area I remember it was a spread out natural track.

I remember Carlos Serrano was the man in the late 70s early 80's at Canyon. A 4th in that first 1979 250 moto on a Maico. He beat some big names that day. Can't remember what happen the second moto.

.

Hers a few of mine from that day....

Carlos's broken chain.... He went on to finish 13 overall in the 250 Nationals that year only finishing about 50% of his motos! (crash or mechanical DNF's)

Chappy's Factory KX 125 with the "Uni-TraK" rear suspension. The Japanese guys wanted to take my camera because I took the photo!

Like a Rinestone Cowboy!

Steve Baure's Dirt Scooter!

Reid and Gibson with a FOX Tech....

Tripes at Tech inspection.

Carlos Serrano up close with a 110 Instamatic Camera....

Hannah was sooo bad he would get off the bike in the middle of a moto and do push-ups!

That's all for now. I need to scan my other photos from back in the day......

Yes, might I suggest middle of July? Nothing quite like Phoenix in July, lol.

Seriously, Nat's run from May-Sep. Phoenix is hot enough to melt paint off a car that entire time and from Jul-Sep is monsoon season. Monsoon thunderstorms can pop up totally unpredictably out of nowhere and one small storm could literally turn the track into a flash flood zone in 10 minutes. Sounds like fun!

TJ that sounds great! Let me know what to bring and I'll make a plan to head out there. I was supposed to be doing a ride/shoot in Ocotillo Wells that week but it fell through so I'm open and I've never ridden Motoland before!

When are you headed to ACP next?
Last time I was at ACP I was there for a Fire/Police National. Haven't been there in years, but if enough people were interested I might be tempted to go check it out!
