"Do you think the deep sand at Lommel will be a disadvantage for Team USA at the MXdN?"
I asked this question of 2 different riders at Washougal. Blake Baggett and Tim Ferry. They gave very different answers. Post what you think their answers were and I'll post the real ones a little later.

Blake would say, "Didn't Ryan win on a 250F in the sand a few years ago?"
Or, vice-versa...
Baggett, hell no!
Ferry probably said what he really thought and said, "The sand will make it a lot tougher than most years for the US team. It's a sandier track than we have here in the US and it will even the playing field a bit more."
Those are my guesses.
That anytime any rider goes to a track with terrain/conditions he normally isn't used to riding he could/would be at a disadvantage to other riders(on the same level of speed) that ride there often/have experience on that circuit. When you put 3 riders together and the format of that event and you weigh out "Advantage" or "Disadvantage",
I believe Disadvantage would weigh heavier just because of the deeper sand and our bad luck in Belgium.
Now not having an advantage still doesn't mean we will lose and may win by a mile.
But we would be at a disadvantage compared to tracks we (riders) were used to ,IMO.
Go with Ferry's answer ,he has raced the MXoN in the past more then BB.
He's even been the hero/savior in a sense, but on the other hand he was also on the last Team USA to lose at the event.
He knows a little about riding in the sand also.
I'll take USA's top 3 rider's over any other countries top 3 on any terrain in any condition, this is after all a TEAM event.
I asked Blake first, "Blake, do you think the deep sand at Lommel will give the Europeans an advantage?"
He said, "At the des Nations? Nah, we'll go over there and beat em!" He seemed very confident, without being arrogant.
When I asked Tim Ferry the same question about 15 minutes later, he said, "Yeah I do, cause I've ridden at that track before and they get giant sand whoops about this big (holding his hand about chest high.) He didn't seem to think it was a major issue, just that it would be something the U.S. would have but to deal with.
I'm sure every rider has their own idea about it, but our team manager will know how to deal with it and prepare accordingly.
I have to admit though, I liked the confidence that Baggett exuded without being cocky.
Screams, "Motocross!".
