Anyone ever run any of this? Went to pickup my old faithful Sunoco 116 octane Maximal the other day and now they only carry VP. They have C16 and Q16, both being for extremely high compression but the Q is oxygenated. Tempted to try it to get the beast back up and running.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
C16 primarily hydrocarbons and some others and is non oxygenated Q16 is around 9-10%.
If you were running sunoco maximal before, run the C16. Otherwise you'll be lean.
Power wasn't better than other options, tuning was harder/more specific to the fuel, and it has some tuning quirks
What are you needing a 116 for?
C12 on nearly all applications within MX is more than sufficient in the octane department - if you want a tiny bit more HP than c12 go with vp 113
I originally used a 116 Phillips fuel at 50:1 with Bel Ray H1R and had excellent results. When that source dried up the only thing I could find local was VP C14 and that didn't do well. Found a Sunoco supplier after that and ran 116 Maximal in it with good results for about 6 years before it got parked. Looking for another Sunoco source but thought I'd give this VP a shot.

I got it fired up with a stock head and pump gas a short while back.It sure was good to just hear it run again after how long it's been down and apart! Wrapping up a bunch of small details to get it ready to ride and just put the high comp head back on it last night. There may be a jetting pass through the neighborhood tonight.
If it was water cooled it would probably be fine with C12.
That's why back in the day 115/130 and the old 145 AV gas was popular
These old air cooled engines require lots of deto resistance when they are tuned up and once they get HOT.
Post a reply to: VP Q16 fuel...anyone??
