When did Bubba become James?

First off I'm sorry for ANOTHER James post. With that being said I did not follow motocross for 4 or 5 years and recently got back into it with the most recent supercross season. When I used to watch it he was only referred to as Bubba. I am curious when he became just James and did he make an announcement of some sort stating he no longer wanted to be called James?

Hubba Bubba Gum threatened a lawsuit, then he went for Bubbles but the whole dish washing industry was against him... At that point, he found easier to just go back to his given name...

they switched announcers... and the new announcers are just reading the teleprompter that shows the sign up sheet...which just says james....then.... he got married and had a kid ...and was like....I don't need a nickname no more....

He is, was and ever shall be James 'Bubba' Stewart.
He had it on a number of butt patches, so I doubt he didn't like it as a nickname.
