There's not much of a stand up market here to pick from since CA doesn't allow
new sales anymore. My daughter wanted a ski and I looked for months before I
found one out of state that I bought her, an 800SXR, It was supposed to be stock but
not so much. A few months back I installed a copper gasket under the head to bring
down the compression. We haven't had it out yet since so still need to test and see.
Even in stock trim it"s a lot of ski for a 115 lb girl.

I actually split the top and bottom decks and eliminated all that was uneccessary. If you are cruising around X-h2o my name is kx454 over there...check out my build thread, and you'll understand what it took to get it sub 300lbs haha.

I picked up a carbon hood for around $500 that was a shade under 8lbs....made a gigantic difference, even with a stock ski.

What kind of cranking compression with you getting out of that Kawi? I know there are a lot of variables, but 180 psi and below is the general rule for pump gas. Shoot me a pm if you have any setup questions about the ski...I've put a lot of time/research into building mine.

Used to ride a'lot years ago. We rented a quarry pond right in town for 2 dollars a year. Had a club limited to 30 members. Fort Dodge Water Sports. Is still going to this day. I never thought I would get a sit down ski, but with family and all I ended up buying a seadoo 700 and really liked it.

I think some of the most fun we had on them was playing ball tag. Dangerous as hell but so much fun, and one hell of a workout.

So I had emailed back and forth with the guy about it being stock, all the pics looked good, super clean inside.
So committed to buy and drove out 5 hours to AZ to pick it up. the guy was not there so I thought while I waited for him I'd do a compression check. I didn't know what it was supposed to be but I just wanted to make sure both cylinders were equal. I was reading 225psi. Anyway, bought the ski and took it home. the thing runs great but way more than a beginner needs. I tried some pump gas one day and you couldn't stop it with the kill switch. Yikes, that's no so pretty good. Sooo, race gas it is. Recently I made a 1/16" copper gasket and spaced up the head. I haven't checked what it dropped to but now I've kind of got the bug to get back into it.

93 wave blaster , riva ride plate, riva grate, rive pipe, flame arresters, modded cdi, bars, etc. not a stand up, but closest thing to a dirt bike on the water. I'm in the process of finding a superjet hull for the spare motor setup I have.

Spent the greater part of five years doing the Busch Cup, Hot Water Tour and local Florida races, qualifying for Havasu and having a blast with no broken collar bones. My buddy and former mx pro, Eric Yarnell, won the Busch Cup Expert division. We still have the cup in the workshop of a horse farm I have. it holds the wifi router lol!

This was from 90-95 and stand ups skis were the rage down here.

Then the sea couches moved in, end of story.

I browsed through the pwc forum and it was hilarious how much it resembles stuff here. The stand up guys vs sit down are like the Moto vs quad guys here.

I picked up a cheap 87 js550 2 years back. Tons of fun. Picking up a Yamaha VXR 61x motor for it next week. Can't wait to rip it in the spring.

My 2005 SXR800, after 25 years of riding mx I gave this a go...and absolutely love it. Very similar feel to mx but without the broken collarbones and dislocated shoulders. Wouldn't mind upgrading to a Rickter Fr-2, we get some reasonable waves when its windy and the sxr is a bit heavy for getting off the water.

That triple looks so good Broc, how difficult is the conversion?

you can now right click on a video on youtube, click on "Copy Embeded link" or something of that nature, just paste that on the reply box and preview the post before submitting.

I love the way those old skis ride. So agile in the surf. This year I am hoping to get a Super Jet. A bit more room in the tray for my fat ass. No 165lb frame on me anymore. I'll have to learn all over again. We used to jump the shit out of those skis. And actual surfing was the best!!! Going to have to start a Jet Ski fund. Some of the stuff posted here is just too good.

Interesting thing about that hull. My wife and I bought 2 87 skis brand new, 2 serial #s apart and they rode totally different. Her motor was better than mine but my hull was better than hers. Every 2-3 tanks I lost compression, same gas, same mix ratio, same trips. Kawasaki kept putting new pistons and rings in, After 3rd time they finally replaced the cylinder block. Was good after that but they told me "now go away, we don't want to see you any more"
After that I told myself I'll never buy another new Kawasaki!!

Andy they r pretty simple. That is an aftermarket hull that we race but putting them n oem is bout the same. U don't need much mainly different drive shaft

Had no problems first two years, then on Labor day the crank ceased up. I ran across a guy selling a 94 vxr 700 yamaha motor, so I figure more power and better reliability win. There is a company that makes a conversion kit and it doesn't look to bad. The 550 is a old ass motor design so for the cost of the crank I'll have a newer kick ass motor.
