Itd be awesome to have a track that maintained their original layout where McGrath, RC, RV, Webb and other past and future riders set laptimes on. Then we could truly see who is the fastest rider between the past, present and future.

With bike development over the years, I wonder how many guys from pre 2007ish would be in the top 5 or 10.

Time to get to work

Not that simple. Lap time vary in a day as conditions change. Let alone over decades.
Different:
- soil condition
- Bikes
- Jump shapes
- Berm shapes
Etc

Dude I’ve said that forever. I know hangtown stays pretty similar but if your looking for exact layout to match lap times that would certainly be gnarly to try for that. It still would be great.

Mammoth hasn’t changed much, but guess what our lap times can vary 2-4seconds a lap just between sat and Sun.

This is the same day even at mammoth just between motos and we’re all 3-4 seconds slower second Moto. I know it would be cool to compare Tomac to RC at Hangtown but it’s just never going be accurate.

Another way of putting it is your proposition considers the track as only 2D. Its at least 3D, plus....

Outdoors probably isn't feasible, but it would be VERY possible to replicate an old SX track with a high degree of accuracy, may something from the 80s or 90s. It would be interesting. They did this at Anaheim in either 06 or 09, but they made a few concessions in the design.

Ya i thought about that. Itd be cool though if everytime a rider went there, their best laptime on that day was recorded. Then you could average out the times. It would never be perfect tho just would be interesting.

Even if say Hangtown never changed. How cool would it be to look at the total race time from each year to find out which years were the fastest. Obviously other things factor into it but for example, hangtown was raced 5 times from '03 to '07. If 4 out of those 5 times were faster total race times than say '13-'17, we'd have an idea on how riders from that era would do against the current competiton on their older outdated bikes.

Im not into Nascar but Im guessing they probably have a chart for each track, since their tracks dont change, that lists the top laptimes ever ran.

It would never be accurate, ever. So much changes from day to day with a dirt track.

Even the most static of dirt tracks (dirt ovals for spring cars, flat track bikes etc.) can vary greatly just based purely on ambient air temperature, humidity, recent weather, etc.
