We have moved into a different house and I have this little 12 X 18 shed to make my mc domain.
I am going to batt insulate the entire thing. I thought then cover the walls with plywood, and a few extra plug ins.

I thought on the ceiling I would cover the batt insulation with radiant barrier 4 x 8 boarding for light reflection and a little radiant barrier.

Question is, I read where radiant barrier needs an air gap to be effective. But if I am going to Batt insulate and maybe putt plywood on the ceiling to cover anyway, Why not just cover with Radiant barrier sheets on the ceiling?

It's really hot here 5 months a year.

I don't know much about the radiant barrier, so no help there. But I'm in the process of doing a little budget "shop" that's a little smaller (12x12) and the best thing I've done so far is add pegboard on the walls. It's such a space saver

Im in the process of looking into sheds , i feel like i should have a door at both ends. Most likely will go 12x16 so i can fit the bikes and snowmobile in to keep the garage cleared out.

I would not insulate unless your going to keep it heated or air conditioned. If you don't run constant heat or AC the shed will maintain the same temp as outside.

I realized today this is a Lowes shed. 12 X 16 It runs about $3,500 with a wood floor. Mine they poured a concrete floor.

I built my last 28'x32' "garage-mahal" and used pegboard from about 3' up from the floor all the way to the ceiling on every wall.

That was awesome to be able to hang everything, anywhere, from tires, wheels, cables, plastics, seats and on and on....doesn't protrude out as far as having lots of shelving that can be easily accessed.

Don't be afraid to go all out on the pegboard!

I just recently put a 22x14 shed on our property. Ran some power, insulated and put a nice stand up ac with intake and exhaust that goes in the window. Tiled it and turned out pretty good. Getting some room in my garage. Woo hoo

If that upper shelf/storage is high enough, I would extend it the length of the shed and use it for storage, add a couple more 4' flo light fixtures under it, a small ladder to access the upper storage and an exhaust fan on the roof to pull the hot air out. You might be able to find a cheap window AC unit on craigslist that someone doesn't need anymore. For a workbench I would use melomine or plywood covered in 1/8" masonite. If the masonite wears out you can replace it with a new sheet for cheap rather than a new sheet of plywood. Put an outlet above your workbench so you can plug things in on your workbench. If you have barn doors on it then you can put storage on the doors if the higes will hold it.

If you insulate with the idea of heating or cooling it at some point, make sure you install a poly vapor barrier on the inside side of the insulation.

Pegboard isn't a bad idea, but slot wall is a lot stronger.

I agree, it's a lot more expensive though and not as easy to get hooks for at most home improvement stores

Thanks guys, we used to be able to get seconds of flatwall for about $20 a sheet. The hardware is expensive though.

I would prolly build that loft all the way across the building and insulate under it to keep heat down where i work.

Then put a door at one or both ends to access the loft from outside and a access door from inside for sitting things on the loft I use a lot .

A frig for milk and cookies.

double up the 2x4 uprights under the loft and extend it so it's half the shed, Quad electrical every 4 ft. (you can never have enough plug ins. something on the floor that wipes clean if you spill a little oil.
I built this Tree McMansion for my daughter. It's actually supported by pallet racks and then let the tree grow out and around it.
Insulated, dual pane windows, electrical, track lighting, carpeting, full finished walls. It started out as something simple, but then the wife and daughter started "imagining", "Daddy, can you add this?" Had to stop when they asked for an elevator for the dog.
