Do any of you oldschoolers have a list of the double digit national riders for '79? Who was 15 that year?

Steve Wise was national #4 in the 125 class and total AMA nation points # 15 (supercross/250/500) in 1979. Warren Ried was number #6 in 125 class and in AMA nation points #19 (supercross/250/500)

I think I remember Wise running 15 that year also.

Anyone have the complete list like the ones MXA use to publish?

Gary was #88 but a couple of years before. They pitted next to us in '78 at the last true Hangtown National and he raced his Ammex then and I don't think he ever had a National Number on those bikes. Bobby posted the 1979 USGP support line up on the Moto Board not to long ago and it shows Steve was #88 there.

Ya' know Chuck...after I posted, I realized the year. I have been posting shit before reading through. I guess it's age.

Gary, rides with number 504 these days.

No problem Mike, for the life of me I can't remember how Steve did at the 1979 USGP support race anyway. Old age? ain't it wonderful Whistling

I have the MXA list from that year, but it only lists #s 1-20 in each class plus their secondary #. Remember the hokey numbering system they had that year ? There was a national # 1-20 in each class and then each of those riders had a secondary # for riding in any other class.

As evomx stated earlier, Wise was #4 in the 125 class and #15 in any other class he rode. The other national #15s for 1979 were 125 - Rich Coon, 250 - David Boles, 500 - Ken Adams.

Be real neat to see all the National numbers from the early 70's until mid to later 80s....

It would be nice if the AMA posted historic national numbers 1-100 by season...I do not know why they couldn't...I am sure they have records of every season of sanctioned AMA pro racing...

In fact, I am going to contact them and ask if thats something possible...

Cam, I just came over here to catch up on the old school stuff and saw this.....

If you see Boles again, tell him Mark Russell from Oklahoma said hello. I'm pretty sure he'll remember me from local races and the Nationals in 77 and 78.

I see him quite a bit. I'll tell him you said hi.

BTW, did you ever find that old pic of Hoenshell on a YZ80?

I have some of the 100 number lists from around 1974 to maybe 1979, 79 was the strange year, i was 77 that year.
Maybe there is a way to make what I have available to all.

The racer-X Vault has the 500’s in 78’ and 79’ top 100, shows Ken Adams #15...great resource for restoring foggy memory.... you can search by rider name or race track, love surfing around that thing!
