A very overgrown Saddleback Park. You can still make out most of the track. Very hard to understand why someone can't open this place up for racing only. If I won powerball, that would be something I would definitely check into.

I'm with you RetVet. Has anyone ever tried to hold a race there recently?

Wow, you can still see the starting area, Banzai, webco and the finish line turn. I think Mitch Payton of Pro Circuit tried to have a one time race there, but the Irvine Co. turned him down. Brings back a lot of memories

Very sad indeed, but at least it's not a track of homes.
Sure miss that place.

Shed a tear everytime we drove past it to SMP, knowing full well it too would soon suffer the same fate.

Hard to see the elevation changes in the satellite photo. The photo makes it look somewhat flat.

There was not a flat piece of real estate in the place........not even the pits. :o

Irvine company is the reason the original saddleback will never reopen. they closed down saddleback II also. The owner of Irvine Co. just wants tennis, golf, and yachting in OC

I know that basic reason Ozy. But you know money talks and anything can be bought. $100 million for a piece of property that has been closed down for 22 years and is in the middle of an area that obvioulsy nobody wants to build on should be an attractive price. Like I said, if I won powerball I'd pay that price easily. If I knew there was some way I could raise that kind of money, I would get right to work.

To be independently wealthy and have no worries about money, I wouldn't care if I could sell the land for 10 times what I paid for it. Just the nostalgia (sp?) of having such a place reopen would be worth it.

I like the way you think... next time I see you at the track instead of buying you a beer, I'll buy you a lottery ticket! " title="Smile">

good call ret vet. I bet acquiring the land would be easier than getting the city to approve the permits.

anybody know if that land fill right next to the old saddleback is still in operation?

The dump is closed. I guess they say it reached it's capacity.

You could buy it, but unless it brought enough money each year to the state/county as homeowners property taxes, or commercial strip mall taxes would bring, they would never approve it.

It still amazes me there are not homes or a strip mall there. The elevation isnt an issue. They can blast down hills and fill in holes with earth movers in record time.

I wonder if it has something to do with the old dump issue? Like the ground is toxic or something?

I'm surprised Glen Helen isnt a Wal-Mart Supercenter. That is coming.....in due time.
