Thanks for that pic - always saw the central rad cap, and had read it was one rad, but to see it as a 'yoke', so to speak, is great.

I collect every picture of the 87 / 88 YZM500s I can find, so, thank you again!

They were the last of the Truly exotic 500 2T Works bikes - I watch the 86 season of the 500 GPs, where there still were the full on RC500s, to then watch the 87 series and see the production based Honda 500s replace them.

I think Yamaha made quite the mistake not keeping Hakan Carlvquist , and putting him on one for those 2 years.

You have to think Glover was pissed when Yamaha built this thing. Poor guy busted his ass racing a 490 against Bailey's works 500, and Yamaha waits until after the production rule is in place to build a one-off works bike.

Yeah, Glover was definitely outgunned on that YZ490. He had to have been furious when he first saw the YZM500!!

If Yamaha had released that bike, it could have possibly saved the 500 class....or at least pushed extinction back a few years.
