Motocross show from the 70's

Does anyone remember a MX TV show from the 70's.

I remember it coming on on Saturday (not Wide World of sports). I think it was 30 min and highlighted the month or week in MX.

It was sponsored by Stihl chainsaws. My dad asked me what chainsaw to buy and I told him buy the Stihl based on that show.

He stihl has it today lol. Best chainsaw in the world.

Can not remember the name of that show though.

To bad none has that show or the Wide World Of Sports USGP from the 70's. The earliest I can find is 1980.

Does ESPN have the rights to WWoS? Maybe they should make some kind of archive on the net so we can go back and watch them.

I actually have a copy of Sidewinder one on VHS and the copy of Dirt Bike magazine where they tested one of the "Sidewinders" that was used in the movie.

Not a great movie by any means, but it was at least entertaining!

Yeah, "Chris", the owners sister in that movie is a total bitch!! Almost makes it hard to watch!! haha

Found it on DVD and ended up buying a cheap copy of it on VHS. In a stack of magazines that a friend gave me I also have a copy of that DirtBike magazine with the Sidewinder 1 bike test ride.

Wasn't that just a Maico?

Speaking of WWoS from the 80's, how classic was that intro/exit music before and after each commercial break? I can hear it in my head!

The bitch was Susan Howard who actually was an estalished actress when that movie was made. How they got her to do the role is beyond me. She did it pretty good.

Two parts of the movie that drove me nuts was the mud fight that broke out during a race and the depiction that two motocrossers would actually try to kick each other over during a race. Drop that silly crap and it would have been a much better movie.

Yeah, the Sidewinder One was a tarted up Maico.

WWoS. "The thrill of Victory and the agony of defeat" Yep the good ole days!!

You might be thinking of Motoworld, which was on in the mid to late 80's. Larry Maiers was the host. MX wasn't mainstream enough for a show like that in the 70's.

That's right, I remember looking her up on the net and she's been in plently of movies and probably prefers to forget that role...sort of like how Robert Redford likes to forget about Little Fauss and Big Halsy!! haha

Speaking of LF&BH...

When the photographers camera jams, Mom Fauss says, "you let Little look at it, if it's broke he'll fix it good, comes to anything mecahincal, Little's all but ???????" Not sure what the hell she says there?

When Halsy walks into the shop and asks Little Fauss, "You got a lube nipple for a Yamaha 250?" What the hell is a lube nipple for a yamaha 250?! Is that something to do with the oil injection?

When Mom Fauss asks if Seally (his dad) what he wants for dessert, she asks, "I've got wet 'n warm, slit n' serve or whippin' wonder". What exactly is she saying?! The first two sound like some sort of pie and the third? haha

Also the scene by the oil rigs, when Fauss is talking to Rita, and she asks about Little's broken leg and then he talks about how Halsy broke his back and then Rita says something about "the leg sport"? Is it me or does that scene not make a lot of sense?

Favorite lines...

"I was going faster than I ever went in my whole life, then I fell off"

"Cycles is a mean toy lady"

"Once a chick goes AC-DC on you...SPLIT"!

"Once it's cool...twice it's queer"

"You cut right under me ya bird brain creep"

"Can you take your hand off of my things"

"Just another greasy spoon up the road"

"I'm done gettin' hurt, I just wanna go up to Frisco to race and screw people"

The classic 70's motocross show was the one where they had Gary Bailey teaching Bill Russell to ride moto on a Bultaco. That was a pretty solid cross over athlete deal at the time for MX.

I just watched LFBH about a month ago. That makes about the 30th time I've seen it. I love that movie.

Little Fauss & Big Halsey....What a good movie. Got an old VHS copy that I recorded off of the TV long before cable existed.

The Ballad of Little Fauss & Big Halsey is the best. RIP Man in Black!!

Bill Russell, uber NBA champion for those under 35, was on ABC's American Sportsman show.

FTE, it was a Yamaha he was on. Bailey might have been on a Bultaco - do not remember.

I have this mental image of his (Russell) knees being higher than the handlebar grips when he was sitting on the YZ.

Found this photo on the 'net:
