These guys were the tops in the mini classes at Rio Bravo's NMA Championship in 1977 Tray Ewers and Chad Parker is the only names I can recall. The guy with the Spirt of 76 jersey on was real fast on his MR-50, but I can not remember his name.

Yes it was 1977 NMA nationals at Rio Bravo, those big trophy's in the picture were donated by Big Bad Bubba Johnson's father that was a rich doctor in Houston for every class. Bubba was in my class 9-11 50cc and I still have the trophey with this his dad's name is stated on it. I also was rode in the 9-11 0-61 mod class, 9-11 80 stock, and the 0-83 modified, and the 105 open class. The smaller trophies were given out by the NMA, I recently talked to Ron, the founder of NMA and he confirmed this picture. Todd may be the guy in the picture, I think he rode a MR-50??? Does any one have a good picture of a Indian Cx-50r, before Italjet bought them out? I am thinking the blue plaques came from the 1977 GNC in the astrodome.

Shaun was very very fast on that track, but the thing that sticks in my head about Kelly, was his father who threatend to bring Hendricks, and Moorewood into the swamp and make them disapear.A fun time had by all.
thats funny because my dad ended up punching Jerry Surber that weekend......It wasn't the first time he had gotten into it.. Just one of the few mini dads....lol.. I also remember Shawn Kelly. It rained like crazy that weekend. The swamp could have been in anyone of the turns on the track...

I was riding 80s at the time, and the ruts in my last moto were so deep that my bars scraped the sides. I have no idea how i finished in that moto, all i know is at the end they handed me the hardwear, I have never seen so much mud. nice to hear that my pops was not the only lunatic.... Mr 50 what class did you ride?

I don't think so......He always used to beat me though.. until 1980 and I finally beat him in all my classes at Ponca... I remember him having kinda curly hair......(its been a long time though).Hey whatever happened to Angie Scott?? she beat me in a moto at Rio Bravo and my dad was pissed.. I was telling him my bike just wouldn't go and he didn't believe me until he went to push the bike to put it on the stand and the rear wheel was skidding on the dirt.....

Gotta love "Mini Dads"! My throttle stuck one time and I over jumped a double and landed so hard it threw me over the bars. It unstuck the throttle when I wrecked so I finished the race with fingers at the ready on the clutch the whole time. When I got back to my pits my dad was yelling at me for riding over my head and out of control. I told him my throttle stuck and he said "bullshit." So he jumped on my bike and took it into the sagebrush trails behind the pits and it stuck on him and he barely saved it trying to clutch it and hit the kill switch. I remember wishing so bad it would stick on him while he was out there. Of course he never said a word, just brought it back and fixed the throttle.

Angie Scott was actually my team mate from Allied Cycle in Leauge City Texas, I think it was the only Indian dealer in Houston. I am not sure what happened to Angie, but I know my dad and Angie's dad had it out over $50 dollars at Rio Bravo. My dad alleged that he leant it to Angies dad 50 dolaars for entry fee to the NMA, and at the end of season my dad asked him for it and Angie's dad got aminesia. This all happened at the old mini track that was between the big track and the night track infront of Angie and myself becuse we always pitted together. I just remembered alott of curshing between the two and i do not think my dad got his 50 dolaars, and I never got to speak to Angie any more. I want to say I think later she got a Italjet, but I do not think she rode in the 80cc class. I will be honest I think Angie beat me a time or two at Rio Bravo, she was fast.

The yamaha rider is Johnny Middleton (inside line) and I'd be willing to bet one of the Honda riders was John Ham.
