I came across these the other day....... I was stationed at Clark AB in the Philippines back in '78-'80. While there I was fortunate enough to ride for Team Suzuki, and Team Honda. The shot of me on a YZ250E was taken in between team rides. It was a great time...... met lot's of good people.

i also raced for the usaf mx race team thunderducks from clark air base in 74/75, recently got 6 of us back together at diamond dons this year. where was the track your pics were taken at?

one of the very 1st monoshocks!
honda xl410 engine in elsinore chassis...was street legal even.
only suzuki tm on island at that time.

The first picture was taken at the National that was held in Manila. The second picture was taken at the track on Clark AB.
If memory serves, the track was located off the main road on the way off base towards the main gate..... it was off to the left. The old observation tower was still there. The third picture was at a National held in Mindanao.
We actually held the first ever stadium motocross race at the old Bamboo Bowl. Tried to contact Stars and Stripes for the old article, but no avail.........

Wow! These take me back. My dad was stationed on Clark from 73 through 77. He actually built most of the track on base. He had some buddies that had access to those graders and earth movers so we could build some jumps since it was so flat out there. We also raced at Subic, San Miguel, Vigan, Manila and a couple of other tracks that I can't remember. I ran minis the first year I was there and moved up to 125's in 1975. I remember a guy named Bob Telles that was super fast on a white YZ125 with a monoshock. It would be cool to find some pics to post. I'll have to check to see if the parents can find some.

Was the TM yours? And did you buy it there? My dad had a TM we brought over from the states and sold it to a guy when we were off base. This would have been around 73 or 74.

tm was mine, i bought it from gerry bernoski the 4th day i was at clark, around aug 74. i have 100's of pics of the races at manila, cabanatuan, and vigan but have not digitized many to be able to send yet. all from sept 74 manila thru vigan...may 75?

Were you there when they ran that big open race with prizes? The first place was a XL175 I think. It might have been 76 though.

Were you there when they ran that big open race with prizes? The first place was a XL175 I think. It might have been 76 though.

The good ole days! They were great times racing in the PI with great friends. My dad too help build the track on Clark. My brothers and I raced from '72 through '75, and raced for Mariwasa Honda (importer).
