Weird European Minis from the 70s-80s

The big wheel Cr80 were sold in Sweden and I'm about to restore one this winter. It has larger frame, swing arm and fork.



How did that restore go? I had one of those 1985, rode Barkaby plenty. Since I was tall 15 year old back then, I was picking between that and a CR125 1983, which was clapped to say the least. Loved the big wheel, very nice chassie, and the engine was good enough for me. If I find one as well, I will consider reliving the dream!

Unfortunately i had to let it go because of too many other projects. Sold it to Mx World Collection in Vimmerby.

The frame is modified (taller and stronger, allowing CR125 steering stem) by RIWA, the fork is a WP4054 from a cr125, Öhlins rear shock, Talon hubs with 21/18 inch wheels, CR125 rear brake, ported cylinder by MTF, special exhaust, alu ignition cover.

At that time many riders had modified bikes like this, some even had RM125 chassis with RM80 engines.

These "weird" minis actually still race in the italian vintage championships

This was just 2 weeks ago at the famous Maggiora track: go to 11:03 to see the Minis race 50-80cc

If you see them race live you would be surprised at how potent some of these old, 50cc bikes actually are!

Here's that VERONA bike. You should hear that engine scream....i'd guess it does like 14'000 rpm Wink

As mentioned it got built by Mr. Carlo Verona from Italy at age 17! He later became a real genius in motosports...he also did the famous aluminium chassis of my '89 Honda CR 125
