Got an old 1976 Yamaha YZ125 with a 1974 Yamaha MX175 Cylinder going to get an original 1976 Yamaha YZ125 Barrel back on it here over the Winter.

Looking to do some Vintage Racing on it and then also Race it and show it off at the 2011 Hangtown National Amateur Day.

Anyone racing one of these in the Vintage stuff? Where are you going to get your Modifications done?

Thanks

I wonder if a YZ175 barrel would bolt on, IF you could find one.

I actually was in contact with another guy on a different site that did bolt a YZ175 Barrel onto his 1976 Yamaha YZ125. I want to go back to the original. I might race this bike at the Hangtown National Amateur day. Also if I can get it close as possible cosmetically to Bob Hannah's OW27 I think it will be back a lot of great memories for the Race fans of the 1970's era.

Mmmmmmm, Opaque side plates! I need some for my aluminum framed CR500. At least the front plate is Opaque.

http://www.vintageiron.com/sidepanels.cfm is the place for Translucent Side Panels. They don't have them listed for my bike but I am going to contact them when I am at that point about maybe having some made.

Next weekend I am painting the frame on my 1976 YZ 125.

AHRMA question:

Being that my bike has a 1976 Yamaha YZ 125 Motor, a 1974 Yamaha MX 175 Cylinder, 1980 Yamaha YZ 100 Frame and Body Work what AHRMA class if any would I be able to compete in?

Putting it back together. I hope to be finished by Sunday night. I still need a few small parts, and a nice rear fender. I can't wait until it is complete.

I actually just came in from the garage looking at the bike. I did infact finish it but not how I had wanted. I had ended up putting a DT125 Cylinder on it and it was just play bike/camping bike fun so I had broken it down to do some backdoor gargage cylinder porting (really just work on the transfers) and never put it back together. Sadly she has so much dust on her she looks like she is covered in mud.

I am almost done with my 1984 Suzuki RM250 and then I will get back to putting this bike together as it is the perfect bike for my friends who are just learning to ride to take out.

Well, it got some extra parts, if you need 'em. Very few however, since I am building another YZ125..this time an "X". I raced my 125C (with MX175 top end) this year. Once I got the kinks worked out, it was a blast.

Great pics excellent job. Thanks for posting Sadly. 2 weekends ago my project went to a new home to earn extra Christmas money. Went to a nice bike collector in Walnut Creek California though so I am sure it will see greater days then it had with me.

Yes I didn't want her to go, but nothing like Christmas for children. They are memories that stick with them for a lifetime. The MX175 stuff was sold separate from the bike some time ago.

Ah, the '76 yz125!
What great memories and what a bummer I spent but one season on a pea shooter developing my skills. Until '78 when I bought a 250 to race the 3 Nationals in California, I had stuck with Open bikes.

Here's a great photo I was given over the weekend in attendance of Dan Villopoto's Celebration of life.
That's me on my YZ running our local TT heat race with Danny Villopoto wrestling the inside. As awesome as it is to now have a photo rubbing side panels with such a good friend, that spectator in the upper left is also my Dad!
What's makes it even more unique is my loving and supportive father hated me racing at the time and swore to never support my lunacy. I believe he attended a half dozen races at best, while my mom would most always be at nearby events and I know she's sitting just out of frame next to him, (or making a beer run, lol) otherwise he wouldn't have been there!?
