Hello everyone,
I'm kinda new here so to get to know you guys better i wanted to share the clean up of my CR 250.
To quickly introduce myself.. My name is Bryan Borny just become 21 years old, I live in Belgium and have the dirtbike microbe since a little boy !
First of all normally i was planning to make a detailed REPLICA of RC's 2001 MXoN bike.
Because i was going to buy the newer CR250 and keep the 01 as a showbike !
But in 2013 i raced 2 4Hour enduro races and i really loved it !
So i decided to buy a enduro bike for the year 2014 and use the 01 CR for another year of motocross riding.
That's why i only giving her a clean-up and not make a detailed replica anymore..
Because i didn't want to spend alot of money in bead blasting the ening and re-anodizing parts and making the bike look like a real RC REPLICA and then making her dirty again week in week out..
But she definitely needed a clean up ! the bike didn't look good anymore after those 2 enduro races i've raced with her
It's the first time i'm doing a thread like this so i'll try make it interesting.
All pictures during proces been taken with a cell phone camera so quality isn't that good.
She is almost finished so i hope you guys like what i've done so far on the bike..
I dont have a lot of pictures of how the bike looked right before the clean up without me riding on it..
Before the clean up she looked like this, FMF fatty exhaust + powercore 2 silencer SADmx custom decals etc..
Started stripping her down.
She was pretty dirty on all spaces you can't reach during washing the bike.
Then high pressure cleaned her again.
Continue stripping
Completely stripped,
When i took off the swingarm i noticed that the chain had slided trough the slider and the aluminum at the bottom of the bearing Took it to Honda vandevelde Racing and they welded it , put new bearings in it and a new chain slider. Unfortunately i didn't make any pictures !
The frame was pretty dirty so i started cleaning with soft steel wool and a fine copper brush.
And the result, Could off have been better ! but i was happy with this result.. cleaning it like new would be useless as i'm gonna ride the bike again.
If i was going to build the replica i would bead blast the engine.. But for now i just took some steel wool and copper brush, though the result looks better in real ( bad photo quality..)
Now assemble everything back together.
Bought these brand new Works Connection radiator braces , Couldn't find these anywere on the internet ! found them by accident on www.kapaza.be , Bought them from a guy wo still had this new in package, Also bought 40 inch OEM Carburetor hoses, I didn't measure how much i would needed so guess what ? havent enough.. And now this guy has ran out off stock
Cleaned the carb and fitted the hoses.
Replaced the stock reeds for boyesen carbon reeds ! Stock reeds look pretty bad but they still close very well on to the reedvalve.
Bought a UFO crf 250 11 frond fender and modify it onto my bike (stole this idea from racesthilaire) http://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Race-Shop,42/CR250-front-fender-conversio…
Some stuff have arrived, The Throttle Jockey RC MXoN Decals. Looks pretty sick and amazing quality ! Also another package with BOLT full plastics fastener kit, cycra number plate...
Also bought new tyres Pirelli scorpions always have ridden with this type of tyres.
Looks like a bike again all freshed up.
Placed the front fender, All i had to do was file the back holes more to the back and drill 2 extra holes. Notice the front fender is a little bended,
They told me to place it in the freezer so i did and it was straight again but as soon as the fender started to get room temperature again it bended back in this form
Also fitted the Cycra number plate looks pretty sick ! still have to make a bracket for it,
If i drilled the hole in the number plate a little bit more down i would have only needed a spacer between te plate and upper clamp.
Removed old decals and added the new ones.
Repacked my FMF silencer with stock FMF packing. Also carbon wrapped the silincer to get the factory look ! I know this carbon wrap is good quality stuff but dont know if it will resist the heat..
Before cleaning and replacing the gas tank i might take off the petcock to take a look. I was absolutely stunned when i saw this !
Flushed the gastank with many gasoline and then cleaned the tank and petcock.
My old number plates were pretty banged up.. but still had my other pair of racing plates that still almost looks like new, Removed the decals and cleaned them properly and applied the twin air decals.
I also made my own carbon airbox decals, Still had a pair of old airbox decals and used them as a template but they didn't fit 100% but i don't mind. Reason i did this is because my knees rub against the airbox, so i rather rub trought the decal then my airbox ! I made more then 10 decals so every time i rub trought the decal i'll just stick another one haha
Mounted my old radiators back on, I still doubt if i will buy these gpi racing radiators and hoses from ebay.
Read alot of positive reviews about them. But i dont trust cheap chinese stuff..
Today i received my new UFO radiator shrouds, brought them to SADmx to stick the RC woody decals on it, I don't have the patience and to nervous to stick them my own.
This is how far I've come, Still waiting for some new OEM parts i ordered and a UFO rear fender..
Also i bought on ebay a Magura Hydraulic clutch system but due to some problems with the seller we asked our money back...
Hope y'all like it !

But i didn't know the 2001's had mikuni carbs, So i think you could be right that it's a 2000 !
I even didn't knew there was a diffrence between 00 and 01 so thanks for the info..
This is like the same story with my yamaha YZ80 7 years ago, they sold it to me as a 97 YZ80 ( it do had the OEM 97 decals)
But when i took it to the lokal yamaha store they saw it was actually a 93 YZ80..
Anyway, how is your garage apartment doing ?
I had the GPI radiators on my yz and never had a problem. Good quality at a really good price!
the last of the really good honda 2-stroke engines.
I've been to the local radiator repair guy who repairs car and motorcycle rads for years now, And he told me he can't straighten em anymore... Without even trying..
I think i'll give it a go with these GPI rads, 1 Honda OEM rad would cost me €380 bit expensive.
The Shop
This morning i received a small package with some OEM parts i ordered.
I lost this clamp a couple of months ago so i had to order new ones.
The old shaft bolt, rubber seals and the other small shaft were pretty worn out.
Some grease on the shaft bolt and put everything back together.
With all these parts changed there is less slack on the brake pedal.
Also today i picked up my radiator shrouds from SADmx, They did a nice job !
They are designing new number plate graphics for me, These will not be identical to RC's plates but will look pretty close.
Looks so sick with the modern CRF front fender and cycra plate !
That's it for today hopefully i receive my rear fender monday.
I also bought a used complete seat for a good price on the internet, The foam and base of my old seat are a bit worn !
The bolt that attaches the shroud to the frame right there you can see a little bit tape, Also on the subframe you can see some.
I can't find these anywhere anymore, even not on ebay ?!
Anyone ?
16199-KZ3-J11
2x 16198-KZ3-P00
You can also buy bulk Keihin vent hose from Sudco or carbpartswarehouse.
There is no link to the graphics because it's not on their website.
I called TJ and asked if they still produced the 00-01 woody graphics or the MXoN version. and they did.
Give them a call, I'm sure they will print you a set.
Pit Row
Monday i received my "new" old seat, it had a new cover on it.
I bought this one because i didn't want to put the RC gripper seat cover on the old seat.
My old seat always had the OEM seat cover underneath all other covers it had so trough the years all the stitches from the OEM cover are all rusted in place ! if you try to remove them they just brake !
Today i received my package from chaparral motorsports, very fast international shipping !
I bought the IMS Pro Series footpegs, a new throttle tube, pink helix carb hoses and some smith goggles that i bought for a really nice price !
Installed the IMS footpegs, Nice quality and looks pretty cool with the chrome finish !
The helix hoses are a little bit darker then the real OEM hoses i bought last time, on picture you don't notice but you can see a slight difference in real !
Also the diameter of the helix hoses are a little bit smaller so was a bit a pain in the ass to fit the carb.
That's it for today, Still didn't receive the rear fender.
And my order from TJ with the seat cover is on it's way !
She's almost finished so can't wait to fire her up again !
Got my number plates back.
Also got my 2 seats covered, credits to my friend, he did a awesome job !
One with a one industries cover.
And the other one is the replica of carmichael from throttle jockey.
Only thing left i need is my new rear fender, so we're almost there..
The dunlop decals are not in the same position, It's a needle in the eye ! but i don't have a spare one so i'll have to leave it like that.
I will try to put her outside this weekend for some nice close up pics !
Offtopic: i bought this GMC truck last week it's a 1994 sonoma 2.2 4cyl engine 137000Miles
has anyone experience with this truck and what are your positive and negative points ?
The spots underneath the truck are no leaks.
A ported 2000 is better than a ported 01........
Nice work on the rebuild. I like to run clear protective sticker over my TJ grafics or I'd be changing grafics constantly. I do it on the # plates too.
Thank you.
When i came home i immediately stripped her down again.
The piston and cylinder head were full of shattered pieces. Cause of this was a piece from the bottom bearing of the connecting rod that broke
Brought the engine to the shop today, so the bottom and top end will have a rebuild except for the crank, they only gonna change the connecting rod. they also told me that the cylinder needs new nicasil plating, luckely he had a cylinder with new nicasil in stock so we traded.
Shop owner told me the cause of this was because i didn't let the bike run after cleaning it, then stored her for 5 months so water came inside the engine and started to corrode the rod and bearing..? Never heard of something like that..
I have to say that i ran on 5 months old 2Stroke fuel stupid me maybe that's the cause ??
Some of you might question why i didn't rebuild the engine while i was cleaning up the bike ? the engine still ran great before the clean up so i was plannig rebuilding her halfway the season this year.. but things went a different way..
Will try to upload some pictures tommorow.
Wow.
Do you use the truck to transport your bike ? and does it fit the truck ?
I can't try it out because the truck is at the garage right know, I'm having a hard time finding parts over here..
Need 2 simple lower ball joints.. Had to order a set on Ebay.
Tomorrow i can pick up my fresh rebuilded engine from the shop
Will post some pictures !
