I recently picked up a 2009 yz 250. Still a work in progress but I figured I would share a few photos of what I have done so far. I still have quite a bit I want to do but that will just take time and $. I apologize for poor photo quality, I have dropped my phone a few too many times
Here is what the bike looked like when I bought it.
Slowly tearing it down to clean
I decided to build up the stock wheel set to look like a factory wheelset
I filed the ribs away and ended up taking them to a local machine shop to clean them up a little more. This is before the machining.
After machining I got them cerakoted with the burnt bronze color, looks cool and has a little sparkle in the sunlight.
I also sent the stock excel rims off to be anodized black here is the wheelset all built. I also plan on changing the rear sprocket to be black eventually. Fun fact former pro Johnny Marley works at the anodizing shop I sent my rims too so that was kind of cool knowing he was working on my stuff. Also their prices are very reasonable with excellent results. Contact- precision anodizing okc
Here is the bike as it sits now, I changed out the ape hangers that came on the bike with some Mika bars and also changed the airbox to the 2015/16 style. I am still trying to decide what plastic colors to get. Unsure if I should go all blue, blue front with black rear, or keep the stock color scheme. Let me know what y'all think! I also changed out the seat cover to a FLU designs I bought on eBay. I would not recommend it as it was the most difficult seat cover to put on. Still has some wrinkles that are impossible to get out.
I will update more photos as I finish the build of anybody is interested in seeing the progress

is that one of mxas bikes? i remember seeing it somewhere i thought.
I always just stuck with black gripper seat covers due to ease of installation and clean look, love this build so far looking forward to your next update bud.
And i think the black rear would blend in well with the airbox and seat cover,

where did you get the coated hubs done and what it cost? i was going to smooth mine by hand and get them powdercoated as close as i could to match the burnt magnesium look
love builds when there is a diy factor! keep it going
heres yzf hubs i did myself years ago with baked on enamel in an over (engine paint) i got this yzf in 5 boxes for 100$ and built it in total for 1000 (canadain)
sorry man dont mean to hijack, im currently in the hospital with a shatterd pelvis from a crash at the track on my beloved yz250 so i love these types of builds lol
The Shop
I have plastic ordered now so that should be in by the end of the week, I ended up going with stock color scheme with the exception of a blue front number plate. To order the different colors of the plastic like I originally wanted was more expensive so I went the cheaper route and got a kit.
Next plans are deciding on what graphics company I want to use , and then some smaller things like clutch/ ignition covers, triple clamps, some billet accessories, suspension refresh, and I would prefer a works pipe over the chrome coated FMF, a bills cone pipe would be nice! I will post up some more pictures once the plastic gets here. If anyone has some of the parts I'm looking for that they want to sell let me know.
Also good luck with your recovery
Here is one that was black and blue but i see you went with oem colors (2/3 down page)

I saw in person a bills raw pipe and mx2 shorty on a yz250, owner loves it and wow it does look amazing, something about bills setups. Im torn between pc and bills, raw or plated. Im sick of taking care of raw pipes.
What i was riding when i went down, bye bye 2016 lol all i lost was my bars so bike was lucky
Mate I gotta say those hubs came up really nice, Ive skimmed down a set of YZF hubs for my 450 but thats it, the Cerakote looks good. On my RM I skimmed the massive castings off then I blast them with fine glass media and sent them off for anodising. Came back with much the same effect except in black, next set I do will be done in grey to replicate factory hubs I think.
Next I want to work on suspension and give it an A kit look but for cheaper price, get a bills cone pipe and possibly some billet triple clamps.
