YZ250 Suspension Advise

Edited Date/Time 4/15/2016 4:31pm
Recently acquired a 2010 YZ250. Ive got the 2015 kit on it now but I have no idea where to start with the suspension settings, mainly does anyone have advise for compression, rebound and sag? Im 6'4'' and 235 lbs. I ride fast trails and sandy tracks here in Michigan.

Motocross action mag on line has a good history on bike set ups. You need to keep in mind that your weight is above what the bike was sprung for and they will need to be changed.

springs first, since you are an off road guy proper springs and fresh oil might be all you need

Call Matt at Matt Crown Racing in Metamora, MI. Matt is a great guy, and has done all of my suspension work. His prices are fair, and quick turn around. He will get you setup right.

You're way above the weight that bike was set for from the factory.
Get the right springs in and sag settings. Take it from there.

That's good advice right there.

I think taller guys like different sag settings, but at 160 lbs I run the following setup. It might be a good starting point when you get some springs. (Racetech has spring recommendations on their web site.)

-Raise the fork tubes up in the clamps so that the groove is aligned at the top of the upper clamp.
-Run about 100 to 107 sag. 100 turns quick while 107 is super stable.

My clicker settings will not work for you. I am 160lbs, racing MX and I have re-valved everything.
Once you get that thing dialed in, you'll probably love it.

At 160 are you on a stock rear spring? Im on my 5th yz 250 and now susp company is recommending a stiffer spring for the rear. Im right about 155 now and convinced them to keep my stock spring but they said make sure to run 108 sag

I run the stock rear spring but the fork springs I run are stiffer.
I've been as light as 153 (without my gear) and the stock rear spring was still just fine.

Send the suspension to jgr , it's less than factory connection and jgr does a better job, the stock yz250 has springs for 150-170
