Hey Guys,
Quick write up for those of you out there with KYB A-Kit forks or WP/KYB conversion kits that want to protect your expensive billet lugs from heavy roost/rocks/roots etc.
**FYI** this is NOT just for KTM’s. I have done this for Honda, Kawasaki, and KTM KYB A-Kit lugs. Trimming may vary slightly between models due to lug offset/machining differences.
What you’ll need:
-Acerbis fork lug protectors (select for 2016-current KTM/GG/Husky as the bolt pattern is very similar to KYB kit lug)
-Paint pen
-Razor blade
-Dremmel tool & file
-Honda seat spacer (qty 4) **Part No. 83505-MKE-A70**
-Lug bolts that are 10mm longer (M8x1.25 thread)
Step 1.
Mock up the mounting/fitment of lug protectors to your lugs. Material will need to be removed regardless of brand. I like to trim these so none of the guard will rub against the lug and leave any wear marks
Step 2.
Mark trimming area with paint pen to follow with dremmel/razor blade/file.
Step 3.
Trim marked area and mock up with Honda spacers in between lug guard and lug. Be sure to orient smaller OD side of the collar against the lug so it sits in machined section. Trim additional material as necessary.
Step 5.
Apply anti-seize to bolt threads and to inner face of collar. Torque to standard spec. Enjoy!
Obviously this isn’t a perfect protection fit/method. But for just over $20 and a little bit of time, you can get something to provide a lot more protection to your lugs!
Nice👍
