These days one thing we don't often see in the pits are top ends off bikes. Normally the teams just swap out complete engines (like the Suzuki guys did during practice at High Point). In Lakewood they must have had something new to try in the top end, because we caught Ryan Dungey's mechanic, Mark Valcore, doing a little parts-swapping early in the morning. He did do his due diligence as a factory mechanic, though, and had all the rest of the parts covered in shop towels to prevent dirt and prying eyes from reaching them.
